Monday, November 16th - Bully Lesson
What is a bully?
Bullying is when someone repeatedly, with their words or actions, hurts,
frightens, threatens, or leaves someone out on purpose.
1. Have you had your feelings hurt by someone in this class this year?
2. Have you done or said something to someone else this year that may
have hurt their feelings?
3. Are my actions or words hurting someone else's feelings?
4. Are my actions or words hurting someone else physically or making
that person feel afraid?
5. Would I want someone else to do this to me?
6. Am I trying to control someone against his or her will?
7. Have I made fun of somebody's looks?
8. Have I teased someone about the clothes he/she wears?
9. Have I told someone they can’t join my group just because I am not
good friends with him or her?
10. Have I joked with someone by "putting them down?”
We also discussed the "just kidding" actions students experience as an
example. We talked about these supposedly lighter comments made right after
students insult or threaten a classmate that are intended to make bullying a
joke and acceptable such a "You are such an idiot ... just kidding."
Today we make a promise to each other and become a better class.
I, _________________________________, wish to reduce bullying at St. Pius X
School. I promise to treat all students with respect. I promise not to
exclude, threaten, tease, or physically or verbally abuse another student. I
will try to discourage other students from excluding, threatening, teasing,
or physically or verbally abusing another student. I will try to assist any
student who is a victim of bullying. I will inform my teacher of any severe
instances of bullying.
