Week of November 30, 2009
It was wonderful meeting with all of you over the past couple of weeks during
our conferences. I am very proud to be your children’s teacher, and I look
forward to watching them grow over the course of our school year.
We have now entered the season of Advent, and along with that, we have many
wonderful activities planned for December. It will be a busy month!! Please
make sure to check your children’s pencil case to make sure they have all of
their supplies.
Please send in a medium size gift bag labeled with your child’s name, along
with tissues paper by Friday, December 11. We will need this for a special
project we will be working on with our eighth grade buddies.
This Friday, we will attend our First Friday Mass at 8:30. We may also have
a special visitor during the day. Please send in an extra shoe just in case!!
We will have another long weekend coming up next week. We will not have
school on December 7 (teacher in-service) and December 8 (Feast of the
Immaculate Conception).
What we will learn this week:
RELIGION:
We will read Chapter 13, Advent. We will make our own Advent Wreath and also
learn about the Jesse Tree. We attend First Friday Mass on Friday.
MATH:
We will choose a strategy to solve a problem and review for our test. We
will then begin Chapter 4, Data and Graphs. Because there are many skills in
this chapter that are not part of our curriculum, we will not be testing the
children on this chapter.
ILA:
Our Phonics story is "Yes, We Want Some Too!" and the Main Selection story
is "Cat Traps". The skills we will focus on are drawing conclusions,
singular and plural nouns, short e words, and initial r and l blends.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will start our Unit on Christmas Around the World. Our fist stop will
be:
SCIENCE:
We will complete a Science Kit called Electric Breakfast in the Science Lab.
It will teach us about static electricity.
