Announcements

                   Week of November 30, 2009

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving break. It is always great to have
some down time with our families and friends.

It was so great to meet with all of you for conferences. You should all be
very proud at how much your children have grown since September. Please
remember that if at any time you feel we need to meet, my door is always
open.

We will be doing many crafts this month. Please check your child's pencil
case each night to make sure they have all of their supplies.

Needs: Please send in one Medium sized gift bag with 2 pieces of tissue
paper by Friday December 11th. Please make sure your child's name is on the
bottom of the bag.

We will celebrate 1st Friday Liturgy on Friday December 4th at 8:30am.

Please remember to send in an extra shoe on Friday December 4th. We may
have a special visitor.

Just a reminder that the children do not have school on Monday December 7th
or Tuesday December 8th. December 8th is the Immaculate Conception. This
is a Holy Day of Obligation.

What we will learn this week:

Religion
We will be reading and discussing Chapter 13--Advent the next 2 weeks. We
will also be making our own Advent Wreaths, discussing the Jesse Tree and
learning a song in sign language. We will be going to Mass on Friday and
listening and learning about Sunday's Gospel reading in our Promise Magazine.

Math
We will wrap up Chapter 3--Subtraction Strategies and Facts to 12 this
week. This week we will choose a strategy to solve a problem, review for
our test and begin Chapter 4--Data and Graphs: Using Operations. There are
many concepts in this chapter that are not in our first grade curriculum so
we will only spend a week on chapter 4 and will not be testing the children
on this chapter.

ILA
We will continue Unit 3 "Let's Learn Together" this week. This week the
Phonics story is "Yes, We Want Some Too!" and the Main Selection story
is "Cat Traps". The skills we will be working on this week are: Drawing
Conclusions, Singular and Plural Nouns, and decoding words with short e, and
initial r and l blends.

SS
We will be learning about Christmas Traditions around the world this month.

Science
We will be learning about static electricity this week. We will complete a
kit called Electric Breakfast 1 in the Science Lab.
