Week of January 4, 2010 Happy 2010! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. It is so great to be able to have extra time to spend with our family and friends. This week we will begin copying homework from the board! There will be a homework sheet in the homework copybooks for this week only. This way you can see how well the children are copying and if they missed anything. Beginning next week, we will not have a homework sheet in the HW book but you can always check the homework page of my website. Also, many times I will abbreviate sentences so the children do not have to copy too many things each morning. I will have the long version on my website in case you are uncertain of the abbreviations. We will have a School Liturgy on Friday at 8:30am. Friday will be Show and Tell day in room 3. Please bring your favorite Christmas present to share in the afternoon. I only have a few rules: 1. Children must have parent permission to bring in the present. 2. It must be able to fit in your bookbags. 3. It cannot be alive (yes we had an issue with this one in the past -ha) What we will learn this week: Religion We will wrap up our Christmas chapter on Monday and then read and discuss Chapter 4--Jesus Works Among the People. In this chapter the children will learn that Jesus worked among the people, sharing God's love. We will also read and discuss our weekly Promise Magazine as well as celebrating Liturgy on Friday. Math We will continue with Chapter 6. This week we will subtract from 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 in both horizontal and vertical form, check by adding, complete fact families with sums to 18 and add three addends with sums to 18. ILA We will continue Unit 3 "Let's Learn Together" this week. This week our Phonics story is "Fox and Bear" and the Main Selection story is "Fox and Bear Look at the Moon". The skills we will be working on this week are: Context Clues, Writing with Nouns, and recognizing words with short vowels and decoding words with final consonant blends. SS We will discuss New Year's Day this week. Science We will begin discussing Living and Non-Living things.
