We will take our first Unit test (Unit 2) on Tuesday November 17th. The
Unit tests begin with the teachers reading most of the test, to the children
reading most, to the children reading all by the end of the year. So this
first test, I will be reading the stories and the questions and the children
will choose the correct answer choices. The types of questions the children
will answer about the stories will deal with the setting, cause and effect,
sequencing events, author's purpose and antonyms.
The second section of the test is on Phonics. The children will be tested
on short vowels (a, i and o), Final consonants, -s plurals and inflected
endings -ing, -s.
The third section is Writing and Grammar. The children will decide which
word best fits in each sentence and which sentence makes sense.
The fourth section is Study Skills. The children will answer questions on
the title page and cover of a book.
Please use the Practice, Phonics and Grammar books (packets) to help review
for this test.
Writing
The children will be assessed on writing complete sentences next
week. At this point, I will be looking for the sentence to begin with a
capital letter & end with a period , finger spaces between words and that
the sentence makes sense. We have been writing sentences in our journals
each week and the children are doing very well with this.
Handwriting
The children will be assessed on Handwriting this week. I will be
looking for proper letter formation and neatness.
