Poems We Have Learned

                         First Grade, First Day

First grade, first day, I wonder if I’ll get to play

First grade, first day, I’m not sure I want to stay

First grade, first day, my teacher seems to be okay

First grade, first day, I hope I learn to read today.

                      I Can Read Colors

                      Orange is an orange
                      Yellow is the sun.
                      Brown is the bear and
                      Purple is the plum.
                      Red is an apple.
                      Green is the tree.
                      Black is a man’s hat,
                      I can read!

                      September

September means school, effort and play
Trying your best each hour of the day.
                   Making new friends
                   Being good as you can
                   Exciting discoveries,
                   Reading books with a friend.

Way Up High in the Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree
Two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.
                  Down came the apples.
                  Mmmm, were they good.

                    Fire Safety Poem

Listen now, this is no joke.
Before there’s fire, there’s always smoke.
If you smell it, go outside
Never find a place to hide.
Stay down low and crawl away.
Fire trucks are on the way.

                      Christopher Columbus

                  In fourteen hundred ninety-two,
                  Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He had three ships and left from Spain.
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.

                         Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.
The first one said, “Oh, my it’s getting late!”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air!”
The third one said, “But we don’t care!”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run, run, run!”
The fifth one said, “I am ready for some fun!”
Ooo went the wind, and out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

                              All Saints

There are many saints whom we don't know by name,
For God works through people who never find fame.
But, gathered together, they now sing God's might,
With martyrs and prophets in heavenly light.

                             Veteran’s Day

                        We honor all our soldiers
Who are so brave and tall.

They have a lot of courage
                        And aren’t afraid to fall.

They protect each and every one of us
No matter how big or small.

                        We honor all our soldiers
                        Heroes to us all!
