Religion
-Started Ch. 5-Jesus, the Image of God
-Completed p. 61
-Discussed our role models and the qualities that a role model in Christ should have.
Social Studies

ILA
-Took the next part of our Reading Theme 1 Test
-Continued working on our Formal Letters (finishing rough drafts and working on proofreading and then moving on to our final written drafts).

Today we had music, computers (typed formal letters), and library.
Math
-Checked homework.
-Lesson 3-3: Estimating Sums and Differences (text pages 98 and 99)
-Completed many practice problems together and completed #'s 1-20 in copybook. We then checked these together.
Science
-We completed the Performance Assessment for the Microscopes and Magnification cell.
-We discussed our results and what we learned.
-Science Post-Test for Microscopes and Magnification next Thursday (10/29). We will review together next week. Begin reading through all the Investigations from this cell and review vocabulary.
Religion
-We reviewed role models from yesterday.
-We read about Jesus' crucifixion and Jesus as God's Divine Son. (pages 62 and 63).
-We completed the activity on p. 63 and shared our responses.
ILA
-We continued working on our Formal Letters.

Math
-Checked homework from last night.
-Lesson 3-4: Problem Solving: Analyzing Word Problems: Exact or Estimate? (text pages 100 and 101)
-We completed #'s 1-5 on p. 101 together.
-Workbook p. 35 was completed with a partner and then checked as a class.
-Place Value worksheet (both sides)
-Played Multiplication Bingo to review and practice facts
***Elapsed Time Project due Monday. Be sure to show work!
ILA
-We completed our Formal Letters. We completed our final written drafts, typed our final drafts, and handed in our brainstorming and all our drafts to be graded. (Please make sure that your brainstorm web and rough draft are completely finished. When you return, you will need to get three proofreaders, type your final draft, print it, and hand in all the drafts to me to be graded.) **Use Voyages p. 46 as your guide as you write your rough draft to make sure you are correctly following the expected format.
-We completed and finished our Reading Theme 1 test. (You will make up when you return next week.)
Social Studies

-We made our class scarecrow in the afternoon and competed against the rest of the school.

Math
-Lessons 3-6 and 3-7: Adding and Column Addition (text pages 104-109)
-We defined addend in our math copybook (definition on p. 108)
-We completed many examples together in our copybooks and completed #'s 11-18 on p. 105 and #'s 9-14 on p. 109 with a partner. We checked them together afterwards.
Religion
-We talked about sacrifices and how they are a part of the Christian way of life.
-We named sacrifices we and other people we know have made in their lives.
-We read pages 64 and 65 and completed the activity on p. 65.
ILA
-We took our Lesson 6 Spelling pre-test. We corrected the words together. The list of words for this lesson is as follows: circle, angle, cradle, ladle, castle, ruffle, juggle, ankle, battle, candle, fable, riddle, icicle, sparkle, jungle, tangle, marble, sizzle, paddle, handle, attentive, darted, swerved, contradicting, responsible, jostling, and pounced.
-This week there will not be a spelling test. Instead, the children will complete a spelling project that is due on Monday, November 2nd. The instructions for the project will be sent home with your child's books.
-I read aloud the read aloud for the new story. We answered comprehension questions about the story.
-In grammar, we discussed direct objects. (Voyages text pages 328 and 329). The students copied sentences off the board into their grammar copybook and we circled the direct objects in each sentence. We reviewed them together.
-Students copied down the new vocabulary definitions for the new story "On the Banks of Plum Creek." I am sending home the vocabulary definitions sheet for you.
Science
-We began reviewing for our Microscopes and Magnification Post Test on Thursday. We took notes in our copybook during our review. We will be reviewing again tomorrow.
-Read over all investigations, reviewing main ideas from each, and study vocabulary. Also study the diagram on the parts of the eye from Investigation 1.
Social Studies

Math
-Checked homework from last night.
-Lesson 3-7: Subtracting (3-digit numbers)-text pages 110-112
-We did many practice problems together and then completed #'s 6-10 on p. 111 and #'s 29-34 on p. 112 in our copybooks. We put them on the chalkboard and checked them together.
Science
-We continued reviewing for our post test on Thursday. Study guide coming home today.
-We had a question/answer session and played a review game.
ILA
-In grammar, we continued working with direct objects. We checked homework and then completed Exercise 1 on page 329 as more practice. We wrote the answers to Exercise 1 in our grammar copybooks.
-We discussed subject complements and identified them in several example sentences. (Voyages text pages 330 and 331). We completed the other side of the worksheet that was for homework last night today in class on subject complements.
-Quiz Thursday on Direct Objects AND Subject Complements
-In reading, we read our new story, "On the Banks of Plum Creek"-reader pages 158-169.
-We discussed elements of the story and the children answered comprehension questions as we read.
-With a partner, they answered the questions on p. 170 as a follow-up.
Religion
-We read about St. Catherine of Bologna- p. 66.
-We completed and shared the activities on pages 66 and 67.

Today we had Gym and Spanish.
Math
-We checked homework.
-Lesson 3-8: Subtracting with Middle Zeros-pages 114 and 115
-We completed #'s 1-19 on p. 115 in our copybooks.
ILA
-We reviewed direct objects and subject complements. We checked our homework from last night and reviewed for the quiz tomorrow.
-We completed Exercise 1 on page 331 in Voyages text in our copybooks.
Religion
-Tomorrow, the students will be completing an alternative assessment within groups. I explained the directions for the assessment with the students today. If your child is still sick tomorrow, they will get caught up when they return.
Social Studies

In Spanish, they went over the vegetables and fruits. They have a test on them next week.

Today we had music, computers, and library. We also completed some Halloween activities for the holiday.
Math
-We checked homework. We put all problems on the board and checked together. We continued practicing subtraction with borrowing.
Science
-We took our Microscopes and Magnification Post Test.
-We learned how a triple beam balance works because they will be using them in our new cell that we will start next Monday (Chemistry, Matter, and Interactions).
ILA
-We took our grammar quiz on direct objects and subject complements.

-Lesson 3-9: Problem Solving: Multi-Step Problems- Text pages 118 and 119
-We looked over and discussed the example problem on p. 118.
-We practiced by completing #'s 1-3 together on the board and in our copybooks.
-We completed #'s 4-7 in our copybooks with a partner and reviewed them together as a class.
Religion
ILA
-We took our Spelling Lesson 7 pre-test. The words this week are as follows: letter, ladder, appear, lesson, soccer, classic, hollow, slipper, accent, pizza, officer, lettuce, better, supper, bottom, ribbon, summer, college, occur, rabbit, reluctant, rumpled, inspecting, untangled, resounded, and lurked.
-We corrected our words together and put the correct spellings on the board.
-We worked more with direct objects and subject complements. We wrote sentences that contained direct objects and subject complements and shared them orally.
-We listened to the read aloud for our new lesson.
-We copied down the definitions for our new vocabulary (reluctant, rumpled, surge, inspecting, taut, untangled, resounded, lurked) into our reading copybooks. We discussed these definitions and answered questions using our new words to convey the meanings of the words.
-We learned what a holiday poem contains. We looked at examples of holiday poems. We discussed the format of a holiday poem. Tomorrow, we will be brainstorming to write our own holiday poem.
Science
-We read over, discussed, and highlighted new vocabulary for Investigation 1 (Chemistry, Matter, and Interactions is our new cell).
-We reviewed how how to use a triple beam balance. (See p. 5 of Investigation 1 for instructions)
-We turned in our signed performance assessments.
