Kindergarten Activities1. We will be working with money. The children will have to be able to identify each type of coin and name the value of each coin. The children will work on addition and subtraction using money. The children are welcome to bring a small plastic bag filled with coins to school. This will be used when working with money. Please label the baggie with your child' name. The coins will be returned at the end of the year. 2. The children are working on showing less than, or fewer, counters than a given number. 3. The children continue to have handwriting practice. They are working on writing 1-10 correctly. The children are reminded to take their time when coloring and printing. 4. Syllables: The teacher says a word. The children repeat the word and clap their hands for each syllable. They tell the teacher how many syllables they heard. For example: rain (1 syllable), ba-by (2 syllables). 5. Sets/categories: The children have to be able to look at a set of 3 or 4 objects and tell the teacher which one does not belong. The children have to be able to tell why the rest of the objects do belong together. For example: ball, book, rope, jacks The book does not belong in the set because it is not a toy. 6. Letter Cc: The children are learning that the letter c makes 2 sounds: hard c (cat, castle) and soft c (city, cereal). 7. New sight word: am 8. Money: The children are working on being able to show a certain amount of money by using only pennies, a nickel and pennies, or a dime and pennies. For example: Show 13 cents- 13 pennies or 1 nickel plus 8 pennies or 1 dime plus 3 pennies 9. We are reading and writing number words. (one-ten) 10. The children are trying to write simple phrases/sentences. For example: my red cat the black dog I like soup. The color words are on the word wall. The words my, the, I, like are on the word wall. 11. We have been using beans to work out addition word problems. The children will practice writing the addition facts vertically and horizontally. |
