Kindergarten Activities

1. New letter: Gg

Soft sound (George, giraffe, giant)  Hard sound (go, goat, grab)

2. This is the holy season of Advent. This is a time of waiting for Jesus to come to us on Christmas. We prepare our homes and our hearts for Jesus. When in the classroom, the children show their love for Jesus by helping each other in all sorts of ways throughout the day. It is a tremendous joy for me to observe this kind behavior.

Mary was chosen by God to become the Mother of our lord, Jesus Christ. Mary was conceived without sin. She never commited any sin during her life in this world. We celebrated this Immaculate Conception on December 8.

3. Spelling stockings: The children print a letter (uppercase and lowercase) on one stocking. They have to think of a word that begins with that letter. They draw a picture. The children have to try to spell the word by themselves. The teacher corrects the word. The children rewrite the word and decorate the stocking.

4. Upcoming activities: a. Paper Christmas chain: The children will be given a set of pictures. They will have to spell the word that names each picture. Each letter of the word will be printed on one link of the chain. b. Number review: The children will choose a number between 9& 14. They will have to write that number on the paper candy cane. They will have to cut and attach the correct number of stripes for each numeral.

5. Short i sound: The children are working on sounding out words that have the short i sound in the beginning or middle of the word: in, is, if, pig, big, dig, fig, wig, win, pin, tin, chin, thin, pit, sit, lit, fit, etc.

6. The children will draw the Nativity scene and try to spell Jesus is born.
