My name is Sister Joan Alminde and I am a Sister of St. Joseph of
Philadelphia. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Education from Chestnut Hill
College and a Master's degree in Elementary School Administration from
Villanova University. I have been an Elementary School Principal for nearly
twenty-seven years, and this will be my twenty-second year as Principal of
St.Athanasius-Immaculate Conception School. During these years, I have
received the "Principal of the Year" award from the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia, and the "Distinguished Principal of the North Vicariate". I
have been involved in Elementary Education for forty-six years; thirty-
five of these have been spent in the African-American Community.
The motto of our school is "Enter to Learn;Leave to Serve", and this has
always been my own personal Philosophy of Education. Here at Saint
Athanasius-Immaculate Conception School, the entire staff-faculty and
administration-works together to instill Catholic-Christian values of Faith,
Excellence in Academics, and service to others.
On the personal level, I enjoy travel, theatre, the movies, and reading,
particularly mystery stories.
This year, I look forward to another year dedicated to the pursuit of
excellence in Religious Faith formation, academics and personal
development. Our school has received a Certificate of Accreditation from the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary
Schools. We continue to share time honored traditions that will motivate
future generations to live and share their faith and gifts with others.
