If your child is absent, I would prefer that he/she get well rather than
worry about homework. They will be assigned a class buddy when returning to
school. They will go over anything that was missed and work will be made up
on a lenient schedule.

CONFERENCES

Conferences will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Parents of students in Grades
6, 7, and 8 are welcomed to come to school between 3 and 6pm on that day.
Please use the sign in sheet that will be posted outside the classroom of the
teacher you need to see. The conference will begin as close to that time as
possible. Remember: we need to see all parents, so those of you who do
not come on the above date will be asked to sign up on December 15, after
viewing the report card. Thank you.
The Upper Grade Teachers.

Many of you have already contacted your local legislators over the past
several months regarding your appreciation of the EITC Program. We truly
deserve all that you have done to voice your concern over proposed cuts.
Unfortunately it is time to take it one step further.

The Bridge Educational Foundation is issuing the statement below and we need
your help. Today please ask everyone you know to contact your local state
legislators with phone calls to both their district and Harrisburg offices,
emails and hand-written, hand-delivered letters to their district offices.

I have pasted the link to the website where you can get their contact
information. Just plug in your zip code in the top right and you will see
who your local legislators are.

This excerpt was taken from "Today's Catholic Teacher", October 2009; Vol43,
Number2.....written by Susan Brooks-Young, a former teacher, now a
professional consultant and author:
At this time experts recommend limited or no use of calculators through grade
three, with careful planned use in grades four through six, and required use
beginning in grade seven. The majority of our students will not become
scientists, engineers, or mathematicians; however, they will be working in
business environments that increasingly rely on the use if techonolgy to
accomplish daily tasks.

All Math homework will be completed on loose leaf paper until the workbooks
come in. We are waiting for the PA state budget to pass the bill that frees
up the money for book orders. Thanks for your cooperation and patience.

Congratulations to John Luciano, President; Shannon Harrington, Vice
President; Matt Clifton, Secretary; and Andrew Hund, Treasurer! These are
the new student council members for the 2009-2010 school year. Way to go:-)

FYI:

There is a publications company that produces skill/review books for all
grade levels.
They concentrate on learning and help maintain academic skills. There is
one subject per skills book. The cost is $18/book and you can review them
yourself by checking out their website.

www.summerskills.com Take a closer look and see if it's something you
might be interested in. Many parents ask for suggestions, especially in
Grade 7 knowing that the students take standardized and high school tests
soon after returning in September. These books are written to the National
Standards set by the NCTM and NCTE.
