After graduating with a Bachelors degree in English from Le Moyne
College in Syracuse, New York, I came to Philadelphia to earn a Masters in
Special Education from Temple University. I initially taught for five years
in a special education school in the Philadelphia public school system
during which time I met and married my husband Jim. I stopped teaching when
our first child was born and then stayed home until our five children were
all in school. When I returned to teaching, it was as a 7th-8th grade
teacher at Holy Cross in Mount Airy. After studying and becoming certified
as an Archdiocesan principal, I worked at St. Bridget in East Falls.
This is my eleventh year at St. Christopher School and each year I get
more and more excited about what we can accomplish together by having a
vision for our children and working to achieve it. I am inspired by working
with such a great pastor, faculty, parents, and of course, our children.
The national theme for Catholic Schools is "Dividends for Life" and
this is one in which we feel very invested at SCS. In our Archdiocese we are
likewise commemorating "The Year of the Priest" and will be remembering our
past, present, and future priests in special ways throughout the year.
Our particular educational focus will be to continue to develop and
strengthen the Rigor and Relevance Framework which likewise includes
Religion and Relationships so that we help students to make real life
applications of what they have learned.
The world is evolving so quickly that educators are challenged to
prepare our students for that evolving world. We must prepare them today for
the unknown world of tomorrow. If we teach strong critical thinking skills,
strong communication skills, and strong Catholic relationship skills, our
students should be prepared to be leaders and achievers no matter what
technologies or problems they meet. It is a far greater challenge than when
you or I were educated, but together we can make it possible.
