We truly were as busy as elves today. We had hands moving ALL DAY
LONG! ...and I suspect that you will see a very tired 1st grade elf coming
home from school today. It's probably easier to Just be a first grader!
ADVENT JOB for tonight -Help with the dishes ...so you can color your heart
in on Friday!

We did not have time to do last night's traveler reports, so we'll double
up tomorrow...

We did not check last night's homework either...so leave it in the folder
and we'll check it on Friday.

No printing homework ..use the STAR READER folder for words for the
spelling test. There are short vowel RHYMING lists that the children should
be ableto easily spell for you. This is a great way to apply their knowledge
of spelling patterns and consonant sounds, including 2-letter blends at the
beginning and ends of words.

A great big thankyou to the ELF MOMs who were helping hands today and
also others who helped in preparation for Elf Day. We couldn't have done it
without you! Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Hand, Mrs. Good, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Gundersen,
and Mrs. Forman.
We had a fun day and thank you for your time spent with us guiding our
hands!

****** You will be getting a phone call this evening from one of our class
moms with a special message about a note which will be coming home on
Friday!!!!!!

No homework next week...but I will post special events and happenings that
you will need to be aware of!
 FYI
No lunch moms needed on Tuesday---it'll be our pizza lunch from walk-a-thon
and no one needs pack lunch that day...no lunch items can be purchased that
day either. If your child does not want/cannot have pizza, they can pack
their lunch.

We're on the lookout for a HOLY NAME cheerleader sweatshirt -size M- which

send it back to class ????(There is no name on the tag)

A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO LUNCH MOMS-
'tis the season for snow and delays....
When we have 2-hour delay, we will not have reading (M,T,Th,F) AND lunch
   will be at 11:30.

No printing homework this week in the red copybook. We will continue in
that book after the Christmas vacation.

Be sure to look through the ANGEL BOOK and go over the Christmas
inforamtion we have learned thus far. There will be tests on this material.
Listening is a very important skills being built as we learn the Christmas
story. Reviewing it at night is a good way to keep the season highlightedas
well as the REASON FOR THE SEASON.

In Scandanavia there is a custom that the oldest girl in the family gets
up early in the morning on the 13th, St. Lucy's feast, and prepares and
serves her family breakfast. Today the girls did a nice job preparing a
St.Lucia treat for themsleves and the boys...then they served their treat!
December 13th is the day that has the shortest amount of daylight and so
that is symbolic for St.Lucy, the patron saint of people who spend their days
in darkness because they are blind. It's very interseting how customs for
Christmas are scattered around the globe and we've been taking about how our
culture is impacted by trasitions from many nations... bacause so many people
have come from far away to live here...America...the melting pot!!!!

They had fun working with their third grade buddies and chatting over their
snack. Tonight on our advent calendar, we are SETTING THE TABLE tonight so
that we can color that heart tomorrow. (Girls can wear their wreath with
candles to help out at dinner tonight-how festive!!!)

For our Christmas party-
Our class Christmas party is on Wed. Dec.23 (while the parents are watching
the show). We try to keep the focus on "the reason for the season"- Jesus.
I'd like to meet with the mom/s who are gathering our treats for that party
on Tuesday, Dec.15 @ 2:45.
At our party one of the things that we do is called a "pollyanna"...a gift
exchange...with a classmate. We have set a price of $7.00 for the gift. The
girls buy a "girl" gift, the boys buy a "boy" gift. The gifts come to school
wrapped , and with your own child's name othe gift tag. The day of the party
the girls will "pick" a name from a bag and give their gift to the girl whose
name they picked, and that girl will give her gift to the girl whose name she
picked...and the boys trade the same way with the other boys. So, the girls
trade with girls and the boys trade with boys. It's really a lot of fun. The
children do not buy for a specific person because they don't know whose name
they will pick on the day of the party.
These gifts come to school on the 21st so that they are not her for too
long! So mark that date on your calendar so you don't forget with all of the
hustle and bustle of the season beginning to get revved up.
