GRADE 8 "Ave Maria" Background and information:
"Ave Maria" is Latin for the prayer "Hail Mary." The 8th grade will
sing "Ave Maria" in Latin at May Procession. The version we sing is by Franz
Schubert (1797-1828) who lived only 31 years. Franz Schubert was born in
Vienna, Austria. He played the violin, piano, organ and studied singing and
music theory. Schubert spent time as an elementary school teacher before
making a living composing music. He wrote symphonies, piano pieces, chamber
works, masses, operas and over 600 songs. His songs are revered for their
beauty and genius and "Ave Maria" is probably his best known song.
