My policy on extra credit is as follows: I offer opportunities for extra credit throughout the quarter. I do not offer extra credit opportunities at the eleventh hour in order for a student to make honors or high honors. It is my opinion that these two distinctions are earned with diligence throughout the entire quarter; not through extra credit. Every student is offered the same opportunities for extra credit! Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to take advantage of these opportunities, however, extra credit IS optional and will NEVER count against their grade. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can I contact you to discuss a question or concern I have about my child? Open lines of communication between home and school are essential. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason! My preferred method of contact for quick questions, concerns, or to set up an appointment is email. My email address is smcgrath@stignatiusvikings.org My policy is to reply to all emails within 24 hours--usually you will receive a reply much, much sooner, but things do get hectic and I want to make sure that I am able to give your issue my full attention! If you wish to see me in person, please contact me to set up an appointment. All teachers are on duty until 2:45, so I will not be available to meet with you until that time. Please do not "drop by" to chat about an issue. My duties to your children begin at 7:30 am and continue through 2:45pm--or until my last homeroom member's bus is called. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is your policy on make-up tests? Students who are absent on the day a test is given are expected to make up the test on the day they return. Since all tests are announced well in advance, students have plenty of time to prepare. Students who are absent in the days prior to a test are responsible for making up any missed classwork and information on their own. It is their responsibility to see me for clarification of any material they do not understand. It is also their responsibility to schedule an appointment to make up the test after school. ____________________________________________________________________________ If my child does poorly on a quiz or test is there opportunity for a retest? I do not offer retests. I allow students to help determine the day a test is given and we review in class. There should be no reason that a retest is neccessary. Plan ahead and review daily and this will never be an issue. This may be new policy to your child, but middle school is training for high school. *If for some unforeseen reason a period is shortened or canceled the scheduled test will be given on the following day as the studying should have already taken place. ________________________________________________________________________________ How do I get my child's homework if they were home sick? Each child IN MY HOMEROOM has a "homework buddy" who will write down all assignments that were given in class. At the end of the day they will gather books from the sick student's locker/cubbie and take them to the school office. If your child is not well enough to complete the homework PLEASE do not insist upon them doing so. The homework can be made up in a reasonable amount of time agreed upon when your child returns to school. **If your sick child has a sibling in the building we will get the homework to them before dismissal**If you are unable to get to the school office, that is where your child's books will be the following day**
