What is your policy on extra credit?

My policy on extra credit is as follows: I offer opportunities
for extra credit all throughout the quarter. 5 extra credit
points may be earned on EVERY vocabulary test by making
notecards, which can be used for studying and then turned in on
the day of the test. I also offer up to 5 bonus points on every
test I give throughout the quarter.

Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to take advantage of these
opportunities, however, extra credit IS optional and will NEVER
count against their grade.

Because ALL students have the same opportunity to earn extra
points throughout the quarter, I DO NOT provide additional extra
credit to individual students at any time.

How can I contact you to discuss a question or concern I have about my child?

Open lines of communication between home and school are
essential. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason!

My preferred method of contact for quick questions, concerns, or
to set up an appointment is email. My email address is
jviveiros@stignatiusvikings.org or you can click on the email
link on my TeacherWeb home page.

My policy is to reply to all emails within 24 hours--usually you
will receive a reply much, much sooner, but things do get hectic
and I want to make sure that I am able to give your issue my full
attention!

If you wish to see me in person, please email me to set up
an appointment. In your email, please suggest some dates and
times when you are available. I will check my calendar and get
back to you with a time that is mutually agreeable. All teachers
are on duty until 2:45, so I will not be available to meet with
you until that time.

What is your policy on make-up tests?

Students who are absent on the day a test is given are expected
to make up the test on the day they return. Since all tests are
announced well in advance, students have plenty of time to
prepare.

Students who are absent in the days prior to a test are
responsible for making up any missed classwork and information on
their own. It is their responsibility to see me for
clarification of any material they do not understand. It is also
their responsibility to schedule an appointment to make up the
test after school.

My child does not understand the material presented in class. What should I do?

Please encourage your child to see me immediately if there is
something he or she does not understand! I am available after
school by appointment for extra help and can provide extra
practice to be done at home. I will also be able to help you
determine whether more intensive tutoring is needed.

If my child does poorly on a test/quiz, is there an opportunity for a retest?

I do not offer retests. I allow students to have some input when
scheduling tests and there is time for review and questions in
the days prior to the test. There should be no reason that a
retest is neccessary. If your child plans ahead and reviews
daily, this will never be an issue.

*If for some unforeseen reason a period is shortened or canceled,
the scheduled test will be given on the following day as the
studying should have already taken place.
