"Apprentice" means to bind or place with an employer, master
craftsman or the like for instruction.
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's apprenticeship program consists of a
half-day or daylong learning experience over a six or seven month
period during the school year. Students meet and work with
professionals who share their experience, expertise, enthusiasm, and
zeal for what they do for a living.
Students apply for admittance to the program mid-May. Students
describe their interest in a particular apprenticeship, why they want to
participate, and what careers they are considering for the future. Letters
of recommendation and application fee ($50) must accompany
applications. Apprenticeship finalists must be self-motivated and
disciplined. Students are expected to attend all sessions and must
find their own transportation to the programs scattered throughout the
Pittsburgh area
AIU APPRENTICESHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

3. Once you have read over the information and made your decision, use
the “Application” link, and begin the process.
4. Once you complete the application and click “submit application”, you
need to print out a receipt page to submit with a check for the
application page, and to have your parent sign.
5. Mail the fee and receipt page directly to the IU.
6. Print out the second sheet which is to be given to the teacher who is
writing your application.

*Please complete your part as soon as possible (by May 15th at the latest) so
your teacher or I can complete the recommendation section.
*I am able to monitor the progress online, but please inform me if you have
completed your application and who you are asking for your recommendation letter.
*I will be happy to complete a recommendation for you, but I cannot do them
all in the last few days, so please try to complete as soon as possible.
*If you have questions, please stop by my office. Also, if you don’t have a
printer at home, I will be able to stay after school to help you. Please let
me know ahead of time to schedule.
