Governor's School

Brief Overview

- The Governor's Schools of Excellence are five-week, residential summer programs
for high school students. Dates for 2009 are June 28-August 1, 2009
- The programs take place on college campuses and provide hands-on experience in
the fields listed below.
- Room, board, tuition, and materials are covered by full scholarship. Students are
responsible for transportation and pocket money.
General Eligibility:
+ Must be in grade level specified in the individual school
+ May not have previously attended one of the seven schools.
+ If a student accepts an invitation after a competitive application and selection
process, he or she must commit to being in residence for the 35-day program without
absence.

program.

Agricultural Science: Plant & animal science, vet, nutrition, forestry, economics,
technology. Held at Penn State University Park
Grades 10 / 11
Deadline: Postmarked by February 5, 2009

Arts: Visual, photography, creative writing, dance, music, acting, theater design
Held at Mercyhurst Collee
Grades 10/11
Deadline: Postmarked by January 2, 2009 although delivery to IU is recommended

Health Care: Human service, therapies, pharmacy, sports medicine, mental
health, medical careers.

Information, Society and Technology: Information ethics, commerce and law,
social sciences, networking, software design, the web, media, technology and society,
artificial intelligence, multimedia design.

International Studies: Foreign language, world cultures, political science,
business & economics, world history, global issues.
