SOPHOMORE RELIGION
The Eternal Word, the Son of God, became incarnate for us. We know Him in the Eucharist as we
know Him in the Word (revealed Truth.) This semester we will study how Christ lives and
continues His work in the world today: THE CHURCH
Christ being the focus of all Scripture and the highlight of human history, we will study the
events that followed His death and Resurrection in the Community/the People of God/the Body
of Christ. These events, chronologically, are called CHURCH HISTORY. The meaning of this
mystery on a spiritual level is called ECCLESIOLOGY.

ASSIGNMENTS.
1. Notes kept daily, checked quarterly. 100 points.
2. Journal kept weekly (personal, but required.)

4. The Marks of the Church in Parish Life. Jan. 30 (Work done in class) 100 points
4. Study guide on the Four Marks of the CHurch as found in the CCC: 100 pts. Feb. 3
5. Extended essay: 300 words. 100 points. Feb. 16
6. Creation of a Parish Church: work in two's. March 11. Students will write a Mission
statement for a Parish of their design. They will construct and/or design in two dimensions
the parish building(s); provide a budget for one year; plan the staffing; the activities; the
organizations and the schedules (e.g. Mass, meetings, etc.) for the first year.
Study guides and creative assignments, beyond the work above, will also be assigned.
PARTICIPATION GRADE; An additional 100-point bonus will be given those students who:
bring all materials to class; cooperate with the school and classroom guidelines; contribute to
the learning experience (discussions, working with peers, etc.); completing class work on time.
SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS WILL ALSO APPEAR ON POWER SCHOOL.
