permitted to be worn during the school day as part of you child's everyday
uniform. If weather conditions require boots to be worn, please send a pair
of flat dress shoes or tennis shoes for your child to change into.

OUTSIDE WINTER RECESS

Yes, we do go out during the winter months. The children need to release all
their energy:) Please watch the weather forecast and dress your child
accordingly. Keep a hat and gloves in your child's backpack so they are
always prepared!! We will not go outside if there is snow on the parking lot
or if the temperature/ wind chill is too low.

HOPE

We recently celebrated Children's Grief Awareness Day. Our school was able to
collect almost $400 for the Highmark Caring Place. If you are interested in
more information about Children's Grief Awareness or the Caring Place please

READING TESTS

Your child will be tested weekly on the skills taught. The theme tests take 3
Fridays to complete. You will not receive your child's grade until all test
sections are complete and corrected.

DISMISSAL CHANGES

A parent note is needed if there is going to be a change in your child's daily
dismissal routine. Please do not write dismissal changes in your child's
assignment book.

MASS

First grade will be attending mass every Tuesday through out the school year,
unless an all school mass is scheduled on a different day. Please check the
monthly calendar for mass schedule changes. Children are to wear their mass
uniforms: boys- ties, girls- skirts, skorts, or jumpers.

LIBRARY

Our class will visit the library every Thursday afternoon. Please be sure to
remind your child to bring his/ her book back to school. Children will only be
permitted to borrow a new book if they have no overdue books.

TEACHER EMAIL

If you have any questions or concerns through out the school year, please feel
free to email me at my school email address. Email is the easiest way for me
to contact you through out the day. You may also send a note in with your
child or leave a phone message with Mrs. Brooks in the office.

ASSIGNMENT BOOKS

The children will be writing in their assignment books daily. Please remember
that the children are just beginning to write in these assignment books. It
will take a few weeks for them to adjust to writing in a small space provided
in these books. Please make sure to check and sign their assignment books
daily. We will be writing homework assignments and information needed for the
following school day.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

When choosing a treat for child's birthday keep in mind that one of our
classmates has a nut allergy. Please keep birthday treats simple (i.e.
cookies, cupcakes, brownies).
