BOOK OF THE MONTH
NEXT BOM -FRIDAY, JANUARY 22, 2010.
Each month, your child will participate in a book share called Book of the Month (BOM). BOM is an opportunity for your child to tell about a book that he/she has read that month. The type of BOM changes from month to month. Usually BOM is an oral or artistic activity. No matter the format, your child will need to read a book (
4th grade reading level) each month and be able to produce a simple story map. A story map explains the story beginning to end:
BEGINNING: title, author, setting, main characters
MIDDLE: identify the main problem without retelling the whole story
END: the solution to the problem
Instead of a typical written book report, these actvities are designed to spark interest in sharing the books we read each month. The children are permitted to bring in a small snack and drink for themselves to enjoy while we "share" our books.
Please help me encourage your child to improve their reading skills by reading for pleasure on a daily basis
