LIBRARY BOOK/BOOK REPORT UPDATE
The children and I discussed the issue of the library book and book report again today.  It was a wonderful group discussion where they told me that they understood that they are to choose books at their level.  They were also able to tell me that they knew that all of us don't read at the same level and it shouldn't matter how thick our books are.  I was very proud of your children.  They were also able to tell me that if they understand what they read then they enjoy reading more.  We then discussed the books they chose.  The children were given the option that if they thought they could finish their chapter book for this week's report then go ahead and write it or if they thought they could not finish their chapter book for this week then they could do next week's report on the chapter book they are reading now and choose and easier book for this week.  Having the children do book reports on their library books is not new.  The children have been encouraged since October to pick a book from the library to use for book reports.  The children should all be checking out appropriate leveled chapter books which Mrs. Hook is able to help them with.  They do know where to look for these books as Mrs. Hook and I have talked about it with them for months.  Thank you for your cooperation and for helping me to encourage your children to be more responsible.
LIBRARY BOOKS
The children have checked out their library book for this week.  They have been told that they will use their library books for their book report.  I have told only a couple of the children that they may have a difficult time finishing their book for their book report and they may choose an easier chapter book for this week.  The children understand that they will need to be more aware of the books they choose and that they will honestly be able to read them.  It seems that some of the children gave Mrs. Hook a difficult time in library insisting that they could read the book that they chose when she tried to guide them to a more appropriate book.   Thank you for your cooperation.
MASS
There will be an All School Mass on Friday, January 8th @ 9:00 A.M.  Students are to wear their mass uniform:  Boys = tie and Girls = Jumper, Skirt, or Skort.
SECOND HALF OF SECOND GRADE
As we begin this new year of 2010 we also begin the second half of second grade.  This half of the year will bring many new lessons and skills to the students.  The children will be expected to do much more of their work independently.  Most importantly we will spend much time preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.  I will be reinforcing at school what you are teaching your child at home about their faith.  It will be most important over these next several months that as you take your child to mass each week they pay close attention to all the details of the mass.  This will be an exciting time for all of us and I am looking forward to working with you to help you bring your child closer to God and grow in their faith through the sacraments.
PARENT RECONCILIATION MEETING
There will be a parent meeting regarding First Reconciliation on Monday, January 11th @ 6:30 P.M. in the cafeteria.  All parents whose children are receiving the sacraments this year are expected to attend this meeting.  The meeting should be no longer than an hour.
BOX TOPS
Please help the school earn money by collecting Box Tops.  I've included a Box Tops page on my web page.  The page contains Box Tops collection pages for each month.  The collection pages are a fun way for the children to be involved in helping their school earn money through Box Tops.  Each page collects 10 Box Tops which is $1.00.  If each of the children were to bring in a collection sheet each month that would be $15.00 from our homeroom.  If we were able to collect that amount each month through the year, Room 12 could raise $120.00 in Box Tops.  Wow!  Have fun using the Box Top collection pages.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS
If at any time you have a question or concern about your child or anything going on in the classroom please let me know by way of note, email, or phone message.  Email is probably the quickest way for me to contact you throughout the day.  I check my email frequently during the day so please don't hesitate to send me a message if you need too.  You may also send a note with your child or leave a message for me at the office and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.  Thank you!
