School Attendance

Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial
to his/her success. A lot of our learning activities are group
oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore,it
is next to impossible to make up this work at home. Please view
school as a priority. If your child is absent, please send in a
note explaining the reason. Check this website for homework.

How much time should my child be spending on homework?

An average second grade student should be spending 30 minutes
doing homework.
This would include writing, studying, and reading.
It is very important that you don't think of only written work as
homework!
Every night the children have oral vocabulary activities, oral
math equations, and oral reading.
Don't forget to STUDY spelling words everynight.

Why is reading important?

From your parents you learn love and laughter and how to put one
foot before the other.
But when books are opened you discover that you have wings.

Birthdays

I love to celebrate birthdays in second grade, but let's keep it
simple. We celebrate birthdays by singing Happy Birthday to the
student and recognizing that it is his/her special day. Students
who wish to celebrate this special day with cookies, brownies, or
another simple treat may do so. (The less messy the treat the
better.) Please remember to send in napkins. If your child is
having a birthday party, please send the invitations to school
only if either all the boys, or all of the girls, or the entire
class is invited. If only some of the children are invited,
please send the invitations by mail.

DO NOT SEND ANY GIFTS INTO SCHOOL.
