Announcements

Hello! Welcome to First Grade in Room 103! First Grade is the best!

    Merry Christmas! Happy Birthday Jesus!

There will be no pretzels sales next week, 12/22, 12/23. Please bring a
snack!!!!

Thank you to Mrs. Hanlon and her helpers at the Kolbe Christmas because we
now have plenty of milk/juice containers to make our gingerbread houses.
THANK YOU!

After the Christmas break, we could use some tissues and wipes. Our supply
from the beginning of the year is very low. Thank you for your help.

Please also check your child's pencil case and make sure they have the
necessary classroom supplies. They make GREAT stocking stuffers. Let's
start fresh in 2010.

Watch here for updates and check the bottom of the First Grade News. We are
very busy in Room 103 and want to make sure everyone is on track.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you to Mrs. Dodds, Mrs. Hanlon, Mrs. Ansley, Mrs. Spaziani, and Mrs.
Warren for helping us at our Thanksgiving Feast. We had a good time and the
bread was delicious. We hope you will enjoy making the turkey casserole with
your leftovers!

Thank you Mrs. Menezes, Mr. Dodds, Mr. Clancy, Mrs. Clark, and Mrs. Spaziani
for coming with us on the field trip to Herr's Factory. We had a ton of fun
and thank you for helping us with our lunch orders. We loved eating the
chips from the BIG machine that makes them.

Important:
Make sure your new ILA journal is covered with clear contact paper.
Dec. 1st: SC notes due! Refer to the announcements on class web page.
Dec. 4th: you need a shoe box with a lid by this date.

We will need to collect empty and clean orange juice (small) or half and half
milk containers for a December project. It seems that an 8oz. or half pint
size will work but keep in mind that it cannot have a plastic pour spout at
the top, it needs to be flat. Refer to the pictures on the back of todays
homework sheet. Thank you! Please let me know if you have any
questions.

Please make sure your child wears an appropriate coat to school. I see alot
of thin sweatshirts. We still go out for recess (sometimes twice a day) and
the days are getting a bit colder.

Please check and clean out your child's back pack. We don't want any
critters appearing in them due to leftover food or crumbs. Any trash should
be thrown out. Thanks for your help!

If your child ordered hot lunch, please make sure they still bring a snack to
school for the morning. Thank you!

Oops......did you notice some mistakes in the first grade news? Don't worry,
its okay. I make a few mistakes "on purpose" so that the children can
proofread and point them out.

Check the back of your child's spelling test for a written sentence that I
say out loud and they write. Future spelling tests will follow this format
and for the end of the year test (in June). These are not graded right now,
just practice.

===========================================================================

Please encourage your child to participate in Sunday Mass by singing hymns
and reciting prayers. We say numerous prayers in class each day. They
should also be able to recite prayers and respond at Mass too. Thank you for
helping your child grow in their faith.

As the holidays quickly approach us and we look ahead, each child will need
to bring in small/medium shoe box with a lid for our December project.
Please send this to school labeled with your child’s name by December 4th.

A Thanksgiving food drive will start on Nov. 16th. 1st grade has been asked
to contribute stuffing. Thank you for helping us help those who are less
fortunate.

Yipee!!!! Our Math books have arrived and will be sent home tomorrow to be
covered with clear contact paper. Please make sure you have the contact
paper on hand to start covering the books. Thank you!

There is a gym uniform that was left behind from the Halloween party with no
name in it, it was in a white plastic grocery bag. . .sweatpants and
sweatshirt. Please let me know if your child is missing theirs.

Thank you for helping make our Halloween party great... whether you were with
us in the classroom or sent something in, we really appreciate it!
Thank you Mrs. Dodds and Mrs. Hanlon for organizing everything and helping
out at the party. Thank you Mrs. Spaziani, Mrs. Iacone, Mrs. Flynn, and Mr.
Iacone. The children loved the skeleton craft and the fun games. THANK YOU!

you!

Pumpkin Day was fantastic!!!! Thank you Mrs. Hanlon and Mrs. Dodds for
organizing our helpers and supplies. Thank you Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Spaziani,
and Mrs. Clark for helping. Pictures will be posted soon.

Be sure to remind your child about healthy habits. I also remind the
children that if they do not finish something in their lunch or do not like
something to bring it home instead of throwing it out. Thank you for your
help with this matter.

Children seem to be enjoying the new lunch choices and it looks yummy!!! Be
sure to review the menu with your child to make sure they like the meal for
the day before the order is placed. Thank you!

Visit www.ccls.org and click on TumbleBook library. It is so cool! You can
even play games that go along with the stories.

==========================================================================
**Please remember: DO NOT order hot lunch for 11/24. No refunds/credits can
be given. Thank you!!!** Students should wear their gym uniform with
sweatshirt and sneakers for the trip.

Thank you Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Dodds, Mrs. Spaziani, and Mrs. Ansley for
assisting the children during the health screenings today! We appreciate it!

Thank you Mrs. Menezes for donating items from our wish list. Thank you Liam
for contributing Legos for indoor recess.

It would be helpful to back any pictures that are sent in for star of the
week on construction paper or a very small poster board. This will help when
hanging the pictures up on the star of the week bulletin board. Thank you!

It's time to wear the formal uniform. Girls should have jumper with red
sweater and boys should have navy pants with vest or cardigan and tie. Gym
sweatshirts and sweatpants should also be worn on gym day.

Make sure your child has an art smock in their book bag through the week.
This will also help if we have "messy" projects in the classroom. Thank you!

Please make sure your child has a snack each day even if they are getting a
hot lunch! Pretzels are sold Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 50 cents.
Thank you for your help.

HELP OUR SCHOOL!
Don't forget to clip and save the Campbell's soup labels, Box tops for
Education, and empty print cartridges to be recycled. You can drop them in
the office or send them in with your first grader.
