The month of December will be very busy. We will conclude our literacy
unit, Animals Live Here, and have fun with the Polar Express. We will finish
working on patterns in Math and prepare for our Christmas Program. Please
notice the change in the secret bag letter. We will be focusing on initial
sounds in words. You can draw or cut out a picture of an object if you do not
have something at home that begins with the letter in the bag. We will be
having a daily Advent prayer service. We will hear the story of St. Nicholas
and leave a shoe out in the hall in hopes that he will pay us a visit. I have
a feeling he will. We will also be visiting the Santa shop on December 1,
2009 to purchase gifts for our families. More information will be sent from
the office in your weekly white envelope. We will have our Polar Express Day
on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. The children will be allowed to wear pajamas
and bring a pillow to rest on while we experience this wonderful Christmas
story. The Kindergarten and Pre K Christmas program is Friday, December 18,
2009 at 10:00 in the gym. The afternoon class will come at 9:30. You can
bring them down to the classroom and go up and take your seat in the gym.
They will not need a backpack or a snack on that day. Take their coat with
you upstairs to the gym and you will not have to return to the classroom
after the program. All the children will be dismissed for the day after the
program. The children should wear Sunday clothes to school for the program,
not their uniforms. We will be having our Christmas parties on Monday,
December 21, 2009 at 9:45 and 1:30.
Outside recess is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays. However
if it rains or is freezing on those days we may go out on a Wednesday or
Friday if time allows. Please be sure your child has warm clothing. You
might want to leave an extra pair of mittens and a hat in their
backpack.
Journal helpers, due to special activities, there are a few dates we
will not need you this month. Please look over the attached December Dates to
Remember. Thank you so much for all of your time to help us grow as
writers.
Here are some questions to get the conversation going about what happened
in school each day. What was in the secret bag? Give me clues and see if I
can guess it. What kind of stories did Mrs. Heim read today? What was your
favorite part of the story? What were your center jobs? What did you pick to
do for choice today? (Tuesday through Friday) What did you write about in
your journal today? What is in the Guessing Jar this week? What is the
Graphing question this week? What did you answer? Did you have any special
classes today? We will need to replenish our supply of wipes by Christmas.
Please send in one container of wipes, the store brand with the thinner
larger quantity work best for our daily use. Thank You!
Report cards will be coming home on December 14, 2009. Please note
where there is an X that these things are not marked until later in the
year. If you have any questions concerning your child's report card please
contact me.
Be sure to take time to enjoy the wonder of this Advent season as we
anticipate the joys of Christmas.
