Week of 11/23 If you peeked inside our classroom this week, you would have seen the cutest pilgrims and indians working hard to learn their lines in our Native American play. They did a wonderful job of reading their lines with expression! In Religion, we made our own liturgical year calendars. We are getting ready for Advent!!! 11/19 In math, we graphed our favorite Thanksgiving foods. We are gobbling up good books, and writing "turkey" book reports that teach the setting, problem and solution of a story. Trinity is our topic in religion. We've read a story about it, braided each other's hair (3 pieces in 1 braid), used a bowl of water, a pitcher and a sponge to demonstrate different forms, and have outlined what we've learned in our journals. 11/13 We had our first book club meeting! I'm looking forward to next week! Some of God's smaller creatures are in for a treat! Wait until you see the birdfeeders! Now we just need the rain to stop long enough to get out and hang them! 11/12 The Smartboard continues to be a source of enjoyment in our classroom! The games we played today in spelling were added to my links page on Teacher Web. Mrs. Riley visited us today to share a story and a treat! 11/5 We've been researching saints and creating baseball cards in honor of these wonderful role models! To celebrate our saints, we sang "Oh, When the Saints Come Marching In!" Then we had fun announcing our saints as we ran through a tunnel of children! 10/29-30 On Thursday, we enjoyed a funny story and yummy treat compliments of Mr. Barone! Then on Friday, the homeroom moms planned a fabulous party for us! Happy Halloween! 10/23 Since Matt was our camper of the week, Mr. Barbera came into our classroom today and read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The children were then treated to a cookie and a glass of milk! What a fun way to end the week! 10/22 Ni hao! That's hello in chinese. Our day was jam packed with fun activities today. Mrs. Barbera dazzled us with a slide show presentation of her family's amazing trip to China this past summer, Matt showed us many of his souvenirs, Mrs. Barone made homemade Chinese noodles that the children devoured and asked for seconds, Mrs. Louden helped us make our Chinese moon cakes and then baked them for us while we were at lunch. We played a fun game with chopsticks, made our own red envelopes, Dylan passed out fortune cookies, and Carina shared her postcards from China. It was an incredible day! 10/12 In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue! We learned a poem, used our smartboard to trace Columbus' voyage, and made our own boat! 10/9 Where do we begin? Our day began with a story and a delicious meatball!! Mrs. Louden read "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and then served each child a scrumptious meatball! We then practiced our math facts on individual laptops. Mrs. Q. took the children for a special art class, add gym class and the installation of a new smartboard and you have the makings of one super great day! 10/6 We had fun with math centers today. Our letters to Columbus are just about finished, and Lindsay and Bridget acted out the Visitation for us in religion class. 10/5 Congratulations to Anne and Catie for winning estimation! In math, we used tens and ones cubes to make double digit numbers. We learned cardinal directions in Social Studies, and in religion we heard the story of the Annunciation! 10/1 What a fun day we had today! Library, milkshakes, spider math, outside Religion review, and music! 9/30 Our spelling words were written in shaving cream today!! The Baptism stories were wonderful! Lots of oohing and ahhing over adorable baby pictures! Today we talked about how good it felt to belong to a loving family. 9/28 Everyone agreed that eating healthy is delicious! The food pyramids looked terrific and tasty! Lots of fire drill practice today! We are looking forward to hearing the Baptism stories of our classmates and friends. 9/24 Today we practiced our subtraction facts by making our own number lines. The children were hopping back on the number line to find their answer. Tomorrow we will hear the story of Johnny Appleseed! 9/23 Yesterday we were treated to an ice cream cone to celebrate it's invention! A special thank you to Mrs. Pinto for organizing this fun treat for us! Before reading Poppleton and the Grapefruit we smelled, touched and tasted a real grapefruit. Today we looked through our magazines and cut out pictures of healthy foods. In Religion, we continued our study of creation. God is GREAT!!! 9/21 In Science lab, we listened to each other's heart beat using a stethoscope. We calculated the heart rate after sitting, walking and jogging. 9/18 Today we read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! Then the children used their imaginations and wrote what they'd like to see fall from the sky! It's our first class book! 9/14 We went to the Science Lab today and learned about germs. We talked about bacteria and viruses, and using vaseline and glitter, we came to the conclusion that the best way to get rid of germs is to wash your hands with warm water and soap. We've named our class pet--Brownie! 9/11 Today we took turns stacking Oreos to see who could make the highest tower! Great fun with predicting, counting, using tally marks, and cheering for our classmates!
