Reviewing note and rest values will continue through the year in all grades from 2-8. It is a skill needed for the Christmas Musical. Discover Music,History and Culture is a program of additional enrichment that will be shared with grades 4 through 8 starting the week of September 21. It is a means of uniting Music with History and Culture over varied time periods. We discussed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris France and discussed the organ. Next on the agenda is Les Tres Riches Heures du Lac. The children from K-8 will continue to benefit from Music Express created by John Jacobson. His material encourages the children to sing, perform and use movement in presentations. The children are responding with enthusiasm to this program.This music was used last year with great success. Each year we will receive new material with this program. It will keep presentations fresh. Rehearsals have begun with several groups of children with speaking parts for the Christmas Musical. All Children with singing parts have been working with me since the second week of September. All children review music for First Friday Mass each month. Grade 8: Phrases and cadences will continue. Melodic contour will begin. Harmony will begin as will the ostinato. Grade 7: Melodic Contour Project begins. Begin Tone Color. Sound Effects project will begin in a few weeks. Grade 6: Changing voices discussed.Harmony begins. Texture begins.Dynamics begins Grade 5: Melodic Movement discussed. Phrasses,steps, leaps etc. will be discussed. Begin Vocal timbre. The role of the conductor will be discussed. Grade4: Vocal timbre will continue to be discussed. Texture will be discussed. Grades are based on written tests, regular assessment in the classroom through participation. Participation is key in my classroom with active engagement. Respect for eachother and for me is expected. Demerits will begin to be issued.
