A literary magazine is a publication which contains samples of a broad range
of writing categories, such as poetry, short story, essay, opinion, prayer,
song/lyric. Many also include artwork and/or photography.
The Writing Knights Literary Magazine will be a small format bound booklet
(7” X 9” in dimension), published annually, featuring independent writing
and artwork created by St. Thomas the Apostle School students.
Independent writing is performed independently… that is, no formal
obligatory meetings. Authors will write on their own time, about whatever
topic piques their interest, in whatever literary form they would like to
write. It is perfectly acceptable for a group of authors and/or artists to
gather to discuss their works, if they desire to do so. However,
participation in the magazine will not require attendance at formal meetings.
Each issue of the Writing Knights will be published in the following format:
1.) Opening Prayer and Closing Prayer- First and last pages of the
publication. Students should submit prayer entries specifically with the
opening and closing prayer in mind.
2.) Table of Contents/Contributors- listed with page numbers
3.) Theme Writing/Inspiration Submissions- a predetermined theme (school
spirit, peace, friendship) will be communicated by website to encourage a
variety of submissions on a common topic. This section is for
those writers who may need a topic to ponder in order to get writing.
However, the Inspiration/Theme will be only a portion of each issue.
4.) General Submissions- compositions on topics outside of the current
volume’s Inspiration/Theme will be included also.
5.) Artwork, Doodles, and Border Art submissions- will be interspersed to
decorate the pages. Artists are encouraged to work in collaboration with an
author to create artwork applicable to a literary submission. However,
artwork unrelated to a written submission will also be considered for
publication.
