About The Teacher

*
Hi! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Julie Fehr and I am a native
of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania but I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida most
of my life. Two years ago my husband and I decided to return to my home state
and I am so happy we did! It is wonderful to be back in Pennsylvania.

After graduating from high school in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, I earned my
Associate Degree in Secondary English Education. Before continuing my
education, I was hired by Pan American World Airways as a stewardess. I worked
for the airline for almost nine years, and because it was an international
airline, I was able to travel all over the world. I spent time in more than 33
different countries, and literally flew "around the world" three times. I also
met many famous and interesting people. I am fluent in French and German, and
have a good knowledge of Spanish. Feel free to ask me about my "adventures!" I
love to talk about "my stewardess days!"

Later in my life, after being a stay-at-home mom for several years, I returned
to school and I graduated from Florida International University in Miami with
a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education, then several years later
I earned a Masters Degree in Reading and after that I worked toward my
Specialist Degree in Reading from Barry University in Miami.

I taught for fifteen years in public schools in Coral Springs and Miami,
Florida and was head of the English and Reading Department at one of the
larger high schools down there. I then became a Reading Coach for that school
and worked in close conjunction with the Florida Literacy and Reading
Excellence Program at the University of Central Florida. I also taught as an
adjunct professor at Barry University in Miami. Literature and reading are my
life!

My favorite authors are Thomas Moore,Walt Whitman, Henry David Thoreau, Mary
Wollstonecraft Shelley, Anais Nin, and a few more "modern authors," Truman
Capote (he was a personal friend of mine), and James Baldwin.

A few of my favorite poets are William Wordsworth, Edmund Spenser, Pablo
Neruda, William Carlos Williams, e.e. cummings, W.B. Yeats, Wallace Stevens,
T. S. Eliot, Elizabeth Bishop, and Theodore Roethke

My favorite Novel is: Watership Down, by Richard Adams

My hobby is birdwatching - especially hummingbirds. I belong to the National
Hummingbird Society and usually have 20 - 30 "hummers" around our deck in the
summer. The older members of the "clan" - those who know me - will feed out of
my hand!

As an educator, I have devoted my life to my students. I am here to help you
become proficient in the Language Arts. My goal is to make a difference and
help you gain success in your understanding of literature, writing, speaking
and grammar. No question is too small or too silly. I will do my best to give
you the guidance and understanding you need and deserve as a student of the
SusQ-Cyber Charter School.
