Friday Message

May 17, 2013

Dear Campus School Families,

I would like to thank all our parents, friends, teachers and staff members
for the wonderful show of support at our Cinco de Mayo event last Friday. It
was an exciting kick-off for our Annual Fund and provided an opportunity to
celebrate our school as a community. I believe a good time was had by all.
I will post the financial information on our Annual Fund page as soon as the
data is finalized. We will continue to encourage and accept donations. The
donation card is available on my website under the Annual Fund tab and soon
it will be on our school website. We also have cards available in the office.

The weather is finally warming and the outside recess time is back -
thankfully! With only 20 school days left and the increased level
of "special" activities, I am beginning to see the grade school version of
senioritis. We will continue to focus on academics and appropriate behavior
until the last day so please remind your children to continue to work hard
and to play nicely with others.

Annoucements and reminders:

1. Our 7th and 8th grade students participated in the Pennsylvania Junior
Academy of Science (PJAS) State Competition May 12-14. Of the twenty
students representing the Campus School, 16 received first place awards (with
3 perfect scores), 3 received second place awards and two received special
category monetary awards. Someone was overheard saying "Carlow Campus School
is the school that always wins!" For a complete listing of awardees, please
open our 'Shining Stars" page.

2. We had our Primary Concert last evening and the performances were
outstanding. Congratulations to Mrs. Sproul and the primary teachers for
working to make this a lovely event! Well done primary students!!!

3. As always, Ms. Weiss has inspired our students to produce some amazing
works of art. The works will be on display in our school until the end of
the
school year. You will love what you see!

4. As you do your spring cleaning, please consider donating two very
different categories of item - shoes and books! We are collecting books for
our classroom libraries and we are collecting gently worn shoes for Greater
Pittsburgh Area Food Bank Agencies. You may turn books into our school
library (Coordinators: Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Posti) and shoes will go in
boxes positioned throughout the buildings (Coordinator: Mrs. Shannon). Thank
you for your continued generosity!

5. Our First Annual Trike-a-thon was a tremendous success. The children,
parents, and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Ms. Armbruster did
an outstanding job coordinating the event and we raised a record amount
(according to St. Judes) - $4723.00! Thank you again for your generous
spirit!

6. Our International Picnic is tomorrow from 4:00 to 7:00. I hope you will
come and join us for great food, entertainment, and community!

7. During the 2013 Catholic Schools Week celebration, students in Grades 6-8
wrote cards of appreciation to soldiers serving a peace-keeping mission in a
forward unit in Afghanistan. In thanks, students have just received an
Afghani flag and a letter explaining symbolism of the flag. Ms. McDowell will
share the flag and letter in her social studies classes.

8. Pre-K and Preschool released their butterflies yesterday. They had them
for a couple of weeks, watching the metamorphosis from larva to caterpillar,
to butterflies. The children literally cheered as each butterfly (there were
36!) flew from the net. Great experience for everyone!!

9. May 24th is a half day. (11:45 pick-up for car riders)

I hope to see you at our International Picnic!

With warmest regards,
Michelle
