Superintendent's Message

2009-10 Proposed Final Budget

Per Act 1 requirements, the Board is required to approve a final proposed
budget twenty days prior to approving a final budget. The District’s
Proposed Final Budget remains unchanged from the Preliminary Budget adopted
on Monday, February 2, 2009. The 2009-10 Proposed Final budget stands at
33.4 million dollars; it represents a 1.5 mill increase or a 3.00% tax
increase. This will increase the district’s overall millage rate from 48.9
mills to 50.4mills. The budget continues to provide quality educational
opportunities for our students while minimizing the impact on taxpayers who
fund and support our programs. The Budget supports several priorities.
These include revising the K-8 Science Curriculum, establishment of new high
school business courses, and debt for the construction of the new
intermediate building. The proposed preliminary budget also includes support
for maintaining elementary class size guideline and the continued appropriate
placement of students with special needs.

It is still uncertain how our State Government will utilize the stimulus
money earmarked under the Governor’s budget for Pennsylvania's schools. The
State Senate recently passed an alternative budget proposal that distributes
approximately $7.1 less to school districts. The Senate’s plan is to use
federal stabilization funds to replace state revenue in the basic education
subsidy. Additionally, the Senate proposes reducing or eliminating many
other education line items included in the Governor’s budget. Because of the
uncertainty of the allocation of the money, the 2009-10 Proposed Final Budget
does not include federal stimulus funds.

Colonial League Co Champions & District 11 Class AA Dual Meet Wrestling
Champions

We are honored to recognize our student athletes and coaches from our High
School Wrestling Team. As a result of hard work, sacrifice and dedication
our boys experienced a very successful season. Their accomplishments
included being crowned Colonial League Co Champions and District Eleven AA
Dual Meet Wrestling Champions. To be recognized as a champion, we know that
it took an enormous amount of teamwork and effort by everyone involved in the
program. This includes players, parents, coaches, and managers. As a result
of this team effort, you can proudly proclaim that you are one of the best
teams in the State of Pennsylvania.
