Felix Project 2013

FELIX 2013 PROJECT

Dear Students and Parents,

Coming this January your child will be spending time with a furry little friend named Felix. The character Felix comes from the children's book Letters to Felix, by Annette Langen. The story is about a girl's family who is returning from vacation when her stuffed rabbit, Felix, disappears in a crowded airport.

The children will be expected to love Felix as if he were part of their family. Our class will take care of him from January until May. Your child's exact dates will be posted on our webpages and sent home. For this project we will blog, journal, email teacher photographs of Felix on his adventures (movies, supermarket, zoo, parks, trips, etc.) construct friendly letters, and improve our geography and map skills. We will also be asking your child to write a friendly letter to an out of state friend or relative. In return we will expect a state postcard from the friend or relative. (Directions to follow)

Each week a different student will be responsible for Felix. While Felix is in their care the student will be asked to re- read Letters to Felix,by Annette Langen, create a summary of the story, journal each night about their time with Felix, and email the teacher 1-2 pictures of their time with Felix. Upon returning to the classroom with Felix, the student will be responsible for sharing memorable moments with the entire class.

We are really looking forward to this fun and exciting adventure. As a culminating project and activity we will have a Felix Party and will share our Little Felix's Tales with the entire 2nd grade.

Sincerely,

The 2nd Grade Teachers

Project Directions

During the day Felix lives in our classroom. Each week he travels home with a different student for a new adventure. In the journal provided, please help your child construct a Reading and Me based on the book Letters to Felix, by Annette Langen. The children will also be asked to journal three to five sentences 3 times about their adventures with Felix while staying at your home. Your child can also draw a picture to illustrate the journal entries.

Please have Felix and his adventure journal return to class on your assigned date. Also, please email one-two pictures of Felix's time together with your family by the end your week together. After your child shares his or her adventure and drawings with the class, we will work together on creating a Felix Tale including all of Felix's adventures. Thank you and have fun with Felix and your child!
