"Oh, nothin'..."
On Friday, November 7 we talked about Beauty and the Beast. We compared the fairy tales we read with the Disney version we would see that night. We discussed good manners in an audience and at dinner.
Our Friday night Dinner and a Show was wonderful, thanks to our well-mannered K students and their supportive parents. We teachers could not have asked for a better experience. From the photos to dinner to the show the children were involved and appreciative. Congratulations to our princes and princesses. You made WMA very proud.
This year in art we are following an Asian theme. In art class with Mrs. D we made fans and dragons. Look for these on display in our hallway.
On Wednesday, November 5 we dressed in the crayon costumes we made with our Big Buddies. Mrs. Candeloro, Mrs. Ricchiuti and Mrs. Przydzial were dressed as Kool Aide pitchers! Get it? They are the "Kool Aides!" Then we went to Community Gathering and had a parade. We sang a Spanish witch song with Senora Zinser and Miss Baldwin came out on the stage dressed as a witch. Then we talked about Operation Crayon and everyone in school blessed our Operation Crayon donations.
We voted in November! On Thursday, October 30 we participated in a school-wide election and voted for the US presidential candidates. Those results were reported with those of kids all over the state of PA. Thanks to Ms. Flanagan of 7th grade for arranging this. Our winner was the same as the real election. Barack Obama carried WMA. On November 4, 5, and 6, instead of answering our daily question at the board, we held a secret ballot. Here are the survey questions: 1. Which do you like better, playing in sand or playing in snow? 2. Should K kids wear the regular school uniform or the gym suit all the time? 3. Should kids vote for President?
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, we visit at DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time with Sr. Patricia, Mr. Stritch, and Ms. Winters for stories. We like to visit their offices.
For our autumn science unit we have been rotating through K-A, K-B, and K-C for lessons. We started in September by learning about apples and Johnny Appleseed. In Ms. McDonald's class we made Johnny Appleseed hats. With Mrs. Brennan we learned how apple trees grow and made "life stories" of apple trees. Ms. Kim had an apple tasting party and we graphed our favorites. Last week we continued our study of autumn. In K-A we learned about leaves and made a leaf book. In K-B we went on a tree hunt, learned the difference between leaf-shedding and evergreen trees, and compared the two with an art project. In K-C we learned the parts of a tree and why trees are important. We made a tree diagram and wrote books titled "Life Without Trees."
We have monthly prayer services with each other. We sing and pray together in a different classroom each month. In September we invited Sr. Patricia, Mr. Stritch, Ms. Winters, Sr. Joellen, Mrs. Stetser, and Mrs. Flowers to join us for our first prayer service together. We blessed our year. We moved through each homeroom and blessed each one. Then we went to the playground and blessed where we play together. In October we met in K-A for prayer and on November 3 we will all meet in K-B. In December we will go to K-C. In January we will start our new year in Sr. Patricia's office. Then we'll rotate through the homerooms again and end in May with prayer in Mr. Stritch's office.
