Announcements

On Monday, November 30, Advent Outreach information was sent in your child's folder. Please help your child find an appropriate way to sacrifice and earn his/her contribution.

Speaking of Mercy Outreach, Jack R. and his family are featured in a Monday, November 30 Inquirer article about their program collecting clothing discarded by runners at the Philadelphia Marathon. This clothing is donated to the homeless. Way to go, Jack and family!

Since we had a problem with one of our email volunteer confirmations for Christmas Craft Day, I will ask the lead parents to contact you and then I will post the final list on this web page using first names. Thank you for your support with our new system of lead parents helping the homeroom coordinators. It is working well and we will try to streamline as we go.

Congratulations to our new 100 Club members Jake, Franco, Christopher, Andi, Alana, Lauryn R., Mekhi, and Michael M. ! They join Maggie, Nicholas, Jimmy, Liam, Michael L., and Jack as students who can count aloud to 100 with no errors at all. That makes 2/3 of the class who can count to 100 by the 55th day of school! Great job everybody! Now start practicing counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.

Congratulations to Michael L. who has met his 100 Book Challenge! Although the 100 Book Challenge goal date is 100 Day in February, being at #50 by Thanksgiving is on target. Thank you, parents for supporting this effort. It already shows in the children's oral vocabulary and their ability to discern word meanings in context. Reading together is the best thing you can do for your child's education and it strengthens your personal relationship with your child!

Here's an update on the other students who are doing a great job on the Challenge:

Important new homework item was sent inside your child's schoolbag on Wednesday, November 18. Keep this homework practice folder at home for "study" and practice. We will use it throughout the year. I have included in the folder two word lists: the word family for "at" and a list of color words. Directions are stapled to the folder. Whenever we do a new word family or I have a set of sight words or math concepts for the children to learn, I will send the list home for you to keep in the practice folder. Use this study homework on any night when there is no written work. I also intend to use this folder to "individualize" study homework, so there may be times when your child has something that the others do not or vice versa. I hope that this little study gimmick will be helpful to you and your child.

New all-star homework!
When reviewing printing homework, I usually check for problems and send notes or reminders re printing back to you on the homework sheet via the folder. However, I was inspired by seeing so many very nicely done printing pages that I have instituted a new program for K-B. In our printing workbooks when I check the children's work, I put a star above the best letter on the page. If all the letters are great, then I award an "all-star page." That means that I couldn't decide on the best because all the letters look so good. Now we will have all-star homework too. I will mark the pages, have the children put a sticker into the sticker book as a reward, and return the pages home for you to see and keep. What makes an all-star page? Check under "Homework" for the details.

Suggestion: note on your WMA calendar that Day 1 is gym day for K-B. Any Day 1 is a gym suit day. Next gym day for K-B is Tuesday, December 8. On the school day before gym day we will tape a gym slip into the folders. Reminder: the WMA handbook states that the gym sock is a white crew sock (covers the ankle), not a sneaker sock or ped.
