Dear Students & Parents, We only have about 12 school days left and I hope you all continue to keep your work organized, use the homework schedule you've developed, study in the way that works for you, and do your best to balance school and play! Finish out the year as strong as you can! I am currently co-leading, with Mrs. Joanne Dougherty, a parent discussion group focusing on relational aggression. We would love to have you join us! Here is some additional information: WHEN: Tuesday mornings (May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29) from 8:15-9:45am WHERE: Perry Library WHO: parents of girls in 6th - 8th grade WHAT: The R.A.G.E. (Relational Aggression; Girls Empowered) program was created by The Ophelia Project <a href="http://www.opheliaproject.org/main/index.htm"></a>which provides education and intervention programs that promote positive change in girls’ lives. The structure of the program allows for review of book passages (books that focus on relational aggression, digital media, targets, bystanders, social norms, etc.) and research articles. The discussion will be open and is meant to be utilized as an opportunity for parents to learn from each other. The program also provides suggestions, and encouragement, for discussing and dealing with relational aggression in your daughter’s life. It can help get the conversation going at home as well as provide stories and tools that can help you connect with your daughter. The books that will be used detail real life scenarios that speak to what girls actually go through in today’s world. There are many resources within the books, and in the research, that can help the girls learn better communication and relationship skills. WHY:  Parents and families are vital in encouraging girls to advocate for themselves and build relationships that lead to safe school environments.
