The following book list was found on www.scholastic.com 1. A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni All creatures have a color of their own . . . except for chameleons, and this sad chameleon wants a color of his own. 2. Anansi the Spider by Gerald McDermott Here is the Caldecott Honor story of Anansi, the spider-hero of the Ashanti people of Ghana, who falls into a river, is swallowed by a fish, and is carried away by a falcon. Can he be saved by the combined talents of his six sons? 3. Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann Rhyming, predictable text and lively illustrations from a Caldecott award-winning artist let children "read along" with this hilarious adventure of a mischievous Gorilla who "borrows" the zookeepers keys. 4. Harold's ABC by Crockett Johnson Parents what a great book to use as a spring board to writing and reviewing the letters. Harold creates an imaginative adventure using the alphabet and his purple crayon. 5. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle This is a wonderful book to teach recall. Ask your child to retell what happened in the story. AR Book! 6. A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams A moving story of a familys dream to save enough money to buy a beautiful easy chair after a fire destroys all their furniture. AR Book! 7. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, NO Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst Illustrated By Ray Cruz This is a great book to read when your child is having a grumpy moment. It can really bring a smile! 8. Amber Brown Is Not a Crayon by Paula Danziger Illustrated By Tony Ross Friends since preschool, Amber and Justin do just about everything together, from sharing Oreos to helping each other out with fractions and spelling. When Justin learns he has to move away, Amber discovers how hard it is to say goodbye to a best friend. "The friendship is beautifully drawn." Booklist 9. Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel Five delightful stories about true friendship. Told with "freshness, humor and a beguiling simplicity." AR Book! 10. Miss Nelson Is Missing by Henry Allard Illustrated By James Marshall The unruly students in room 207 learn their lesson when a stern new teacher arrives. AR Book! 11. The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth by Joanna Cole Illustrated By Bruce Degen "Ms. Frizzle, the wackiest, wisest teacher in picture books returns to teach geology via a field trip to the center of the earth." Booklist 13. The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka Illustrated By Lane Smith This irresistible "revisionist" retelling of the traditional tale has become a classroom hit! Rooster's Off To See The World by Eric Carle A rooster, on his way to see the world, is joined by 14 animals along the way in this simple introduction to the meaning of numbers and sets. 15. Goose On The Loose by Emery Battis and Phil Roxbee Cox This hilarious rhyming tale about a goose on the loose is part of a research-based phonics series designed to help young children learn how to read. The Sun Is My Favorite Star by Frank Asch This book celebrates a child's love of the sun and the wondrous ways in which it helps the earth and the life upon it. 25. Story of Anne Frank by Brenda Ralph Lewis When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands, 13-year-old Anne Frank and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam. After their capture, her father's secretary found Anne's diary and kept it safe. This Level 3 DK Reader will help beginning readers learn about Anne Frank's life. 26. Junie B. Jones Is A Graduation Girl by Barbara Park Six-year-old Junie B. is about to graduate from kindergarten. Before graduation, she and her classmates receive their snowy white caps and gowns.
