Reminders & Suggestions

Gym this week will be Thursday (Day 1) but it is also the Blue Ribbon Assembly in the gym at the same time. We will miss gym this week.

Thank you to all who offered to help with the feast and all the preparations.  A letter will be in your child's folder by the middle of the week listing all who are coming each day.  We welcome any "walk-ins".  As you can imagine this is a big undertaking and we are grateful for all your energy and hands but we feel we need to repeat that "no siblings" can come to the feast or pre-activities.  Their time will come when he/she comes to Pre-K.  We also must say that even though we would love to have you all sit down with your child at the feast, only the guests (grandparents or fill-ins) have a reserved seat.  Anyone who is helping with see the event first hand and be there to serve and observe the joy in the eyes of the children and grandparents or substitute grandparents.

Please remember to send in the paper titled Guest's Thoughts and Child's Thoughts. We need these this week as we prepare a certain item for the table.  We mentioned previously that we would be asking for pictures. You can feel relieved that we won't be doing that.  As we gave it more thought, we realized that you are doing enough and asking you to find something else for us was too much.  You are off the hook on this one.

Coming home on Monday in your child's folder are two letters asking for food.  We think they are self-explanatory but we wanted to further explain.  One request is for a food item for a class Thanksgiving basket that will be sent to a needy family.  The other food request is for a food item to be used in our own Thanksgiving Feast.  We hope this will not be an inconvenience or hardship on anyone.  It is a time to be thankful for what we have and give to those who are less fortunate.

The Blue Ribbon Ceremony will take place in the gym on Thursday at 10:00.  The whole school will be attending this.  There is also a special treat lined up for the children in the afternoon.  This is being kept a secret at the present time.  Since this is also the day that we are meeting with our Big Buddies, we feel this is going to be a day set aside for hearing good things and having great fun.

We will re reading many stories about Pilgrim children and their life.  A good "dinnertime" conversation might be to compare your child's way of living with that of a Pilgrim boy or girl.

If there is a change in the feast count for you, please let us know.  We will be making the seating chart next week and a change can throw the whole thing off.

I am happy that I got to talk to most of you during the scheduled conference times.  Please know that I am available at any time if you have a concern or problem. Please feel free to call or e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I have a free moment.

A fun activity that helps to develop small motor skills -- trace  a letter on an 8-inch piece of stiff paper (cardboard), let your child punch Holes at various spots on the letter line, and then using a piece of yarn, lace the letter.

Mrs. Morinigo and I have a favor and a request.  One of the things that we are constantly reminding the children to do  when they are sitting at a table is "sit with both feet under the table, on the floor and in front of them". We would love it if you could help us with this by reinforcing it at home when you are sitting at your kitchen or dining room table.  We feel this is an important thing to practice not only because of the safety issue but because it is "good manners". Thank you for helping us out.

When your child is coloring, encourage him/her to go in one direction and go slowly.  This is another small motor skill that gets better and better with Practice. Just a few minutes each night can be a great help.
