Letter People NewsMr. O will drop into our room when we return from Christmas vacation.
He will be very anxious to talk about OPPOSITES. Hopefully, some of the children will notice that he is a letter light which means he is a vowel and has both a long and short sound. We also learned that every word must have a letter light (vowel) to be a word. Ask your child where the letter light is on the letter person and what is another way that we can tell that this letter person is a letter light ( clue- it has to do with color). Mr. O also likes the shape of ovals. As new letter people are introduced, look for letters in books and on boxes of cereal, signs, and bags. Play a game by being a detective like Mr. D and find the letters that are hiding in words. The children are getting very good at recognizing all the letters and his/her special feature. It is amazing to me also that most of the children recognize the sounds that the letter people make and quickly catch me when I say a word that begins with any of the letter people that we have already met. Use any opportunity you have at home to further their recognition of letters and sounds. We try now to greet each of the letter people each morning but we do it in a way that the children have to think what letter I am thinking of. I might say "Let's say Good Morning to the letter person who lives in Pennsylvania or the letter person who eats peanuts". Try some and see how quickly your child is able to tell you the letter. Practice drawing the letter "O". Review the letters "F", "D", "K", "B",A", "M", H", P", "W"and "N". Remember to start all strokes from the top.
Look for things around your house that begin with the letter "O" or find words that have an "O" in the word..
