What's Coming Up

Trying to make arrangements with our Big Buddies to get together for a Christmas project.  Time to move the Pilgrims out of the hall.

Your child will be bringing home a special bell on Monday to help count the days till Christmas.  Put it in a special place where your child will think to do it each night.

In December, we will continue with the idea of "caught being good" but instead of feathers, the children will be putting straw in Baby Jesus' bed.  To help us focus on the true meaning of Christmas (Birth of Baby Jesus), the children will be putting straw in a bed that is being readied for Jesus.  Each time the children do a good deed, say a kind word, or speak gently to a friend, they will place a piece of straw (yarn) in the bed.  It will be our goal to have the bed very soft by the time Baby Jesus is born.  If your child does anything helpful or kind at home, please send me a note so that a piece of straw can be added.

Don't be surprised if your child comes home singing some different songs.  We will be getting ready to entertain you with a few songs at our Christmas program. My favorite one is
"Happy Birthday Baby Jesus".

This week we will be talking about Advent and how we prepare ourselves for the birth of Baby Jesus.  Our room will take on the glow of Christmas with Jesus as the center of our attention.  Each morning we will light one candle and sing a song about the meaning of lighting the candles.

We will also share with the children the story of St. Nicholas whose birthday is December 6.  If you want to read more about the St. Nicholas tradition, you can go to stnicholascenter.com.  It is a wealth oif information.  We will keep it very simple and the children will find a special gift celebrating St. Nicholas at their cubby on Tuesday, December 9.  A few days after but good things are worth waiting for.

We will be busy in the next two weeks creating some special gifts for those we love.  Hopefully, your child will keep it a secret till Christmas.

Our Christmas play will take place on Friday, December 19 at 10:00 AM in the library.  The play should last about 20 minutes and it will be followed by a simple breakfast on the Garden Level.  We hope you will be able to enjoy this with us.  No costumes are needed.  Children will dress as you wish.  You will be getting the lines that your child needs to memorize.  Work on these each night and remind your child to speak slowly but loudly.
