Character Education

Our goal in first grade is to develop good character that will help students
make good choices throughout the school year, at home, and in every other
area of their lives. We promote good character by following our classroom
rules and working together. Our rules are...

                            Class Rules:
                       1. I will be respectful.
                       2. I will be safe.
                       3. I will be responsible.

Students who consistently display good character may also be chosen for Star
Club. The Star Club (Students That Act Responsibly) is chosen around October.
Students are selected from our class based on their behavior. They wear
special badges so that they are recognized. They are students who can be
counted on at all times. Star Club is a way to reward students who go above
and beyond expectations and show positive character traits at all times.
Since Star Club is a privelege, students can be either added or removed from
this club at any time.

Students also recite a character pledge each morning. This helps to remind
us what being a "Kid for Character" really means.

                      Wildcat Character Pledge:
As a Wilson Borough Elementary School Wildcat, I pledge to be a kid for
character. I will be worthy of trust. I will be respectful and responsible,
doing what I must. I will always act with fairness. I will show that I care.
I will be a good citizen and always do my share.

Each week, students throughout the school are chosen to be a Wildcat of the
Week. These students have shown good character and are recognized by their
teacher. Their name (and the reason why they were chosen) is announced on
our Wildcat Broadcasting News. Chosen students also receive a certificate
which is hung in the hallway for all others to see. Make sure you're showing
good character-you never know when you could be picked!
