STARS Tutoring Program STARS Programs STARS Peer Tutoring Program This FREEcooperative, peer-tutoring program is available to all Wissahickon High School students. A Wissahickon faculty member must recommend each tutor. Each member will be matched with an available peer tutor or client, after they have completed an application with parent signature and attended a short in-service training. The Client’s teacher for the subject being tutored will be given feedback on the material covered and the time spent in each study session. STARS Study Partners Program This FREEcooperative, peer study program is available to all Wissahickon High School Students. Students sign up with a friend to study for a specific subject and teacher. Before participating, both study partners must submit a completed application with parent signature and attend a short in-service training. The teacher for the subject being studied by the Study Partners will be given feedback on the material covered and the time spent in each study session. STARS Coach’s Choice Program This FREEcooperative, peer study program is planned for athletes needing to meet eligibility requirements because they need motivation to meet their class requirements. Each Coach’s Choice team member must obtain an application from their coach and sign up with a fellow team member. Both team members must be recommended by their coach, complete an application with their parent’s signature, and attend a brief orientation about the procedures of STARS. These team members will meet together after school before practice. They will help each other be accountable for completing their assignments in all subjects. The Coach will be given feedback on the material covered and the time spent in each study session. All programs occur after school from 3:00 to 5:00 every day or during the Instructional Support Lab period. All members can earn activity credit for the time they participate in any of the programs. Clients, Tutors, and Study Partners can use the 4:15 after school activity bus on Tuesday and Thursday; on Monday and Wednesday students may stay in the library until the 5:30 after school activity bus; however, they must provide their own transportation home on Friday. Applications for Clients, Tutors, and Study Partners are available in the library, in the guidance office, from teachers, and in Room D04. Applications for Coach’s Choice can be obtained from the coach.
