When you write a piece of writing, please refer to the following checklist 
in order to be sure that the piece has been checked for key important 
parts.  You will need to print this sheet out and attach it onto your final 
copy.

Checklist for Good Writing

How can you tell if something you read or write has the traits of effective 
writing?  You can use the following checklist.

Ö Stimulating Ideas
____Did I present important, interesting information?

____Did I hold the reader’s attention all the way through?

Ö Logical Organization
____Did I include a clear beginning, middle, and ending?

____Did I use specific details to support the main ideas?

Ö Personal Voice
____Did I show my enthusiasm for the topic?

____Is my writing easy to read aloud or listen to?

Ö Original Word Choice
__Did I use strong verbs, specific nouns, and colorful adjectives?

___Did I help the reader picture what I am writing about?

Ö Smooth Sentences
__Did I mix short sentences with longer ones?

___Did I show variety in my sentence beginnings?
