Behavior System

I feel that a behavior system has to be fair and consistent to be effective in any setting (home or school). If a child understands the rules, consequences, and rewards and knows that they will be used in a consistent manner then I feel he or she will be successful with the system. Children need to know what is expected of them and the way to show them this is by being consistent with your actions. Remember to demonstrate the behavior you want to see in your child. We have a "Behavior Tree" in our classroom. Each student has a clip on the tree. If your child does not follow our rules, he or she will receive a verbal warning and be reminded of the rules. If he or she continues to not follow the rules the clip will be moved to the "warning" area on the tree. If he or she continues to not follow the rules then the clip is moved to the five minute area. The next area is 10 minutes. If the behavior continues I will contact Mrs. McCarthy, our principal. If I have any concerns about your child's behavior I will be in touch with you as soon as possible. Students enjoy being part of the tree and can easily see where they are with their behavior. I also have a reward chart where I keep track of good behavior and students can choose a special reward from the treasure box.
