Everyday Class Journals
Rules and Regulations
Throughout the year you will have an opportunity to do special work at the
beginning of the regular class period. (not including test days or other
specified days) When you enter class there will be a specific journal
prompt written on the board. You will have the first five minutes of class,
starting when you arrive to write one or more paragraphs on the journal
prompt.
At approximately five minutes after the bell, I will collect your journal
writings and log them on my register. The journal topics will vary from day
to day and will include topics of interest from current events, the material
we are reading, or free writing on your own subject of interest. They will
often ask questions about what you think about a topic so feel free to
express your thoughts and feelings.
After you have accumulated FIVE satisfactory entries, you will receive a
HOMEWORK PASS. This pass can be attached to any ONE assignment in your
study packets. The pass will count the same as if you had completed the
assignment but you don¡¦t have to do either side of the page! You can also
choose to attach your homework pass (or passes) to any one of your unit
tests for a FIVE point bonus on the total score. You can only use each pass
once so you must choose wisely. You may receive as many homework passes as
possible as long as you follow the rules stated below.
Of course, the everyday class journal is not mandatory and it will not count
against your final grade if you choose not to participate. You must
remember though that this is the only opportunity that I allow for extra
credit during the marking period.
