Thank You for visiting the JFK and Tenth Street Elementary Website!

I would like to welcome you to 10th Street and JFK Elementary Schools for the 2011-2012 school year. I look forward to another exciting and productive year. We enjoyed many great successes last year and I hope to continue those again this year.

As we kick of the new year there are a few changes I would like to keep you informed about. First, the arrival for elementary students has been pushed back to 8:35 am. This additional time will permit teachers to participate in valuable professional development sessions. It also assures that there is staff on duty to supervise students as they arrive.

Another change that your children will speak about is the introduction of a new discipline philosophy called School Wide Positive Behavior Support. This philosophy focuses on reinforcement of appropriate behaviors versus punishment. Students will earn Warrior Tickets and Tokens which they will be able to exchange for items from our school store at each building.

A final change effects the students in Sixth Grade at 10th Street. In order to assist with the transition to the Secondary Center, we have introduced a schedule that is more aligned to a middle school. Students will travel in groups to other teachers throughout the day to receive their Math, Social Studies, and Science classes. There will also be a shift in how the students attend Related Arts. Those classes will work on a seven day rotation. Students will be Related Arts for five days and stay in their homerooms on the other two days to focus on Writing instruction.

Please check out the FAQ section of the website to answer any basic questions you may have general policies and practices. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either via email (click the mail box in the upper right corner) or via phone.

Sincerely,

Jon Pollard
Principal
