Course Description
The English series is called, English to Use. This series integrates
Spelling, Grammar, Writing, Reading, and Listening Skills. A special
emphasis
will be placed on the writing process to prepare the students for the PSSA
test in seventh grade.
Course Objectives
The students will master capitalization and punctuation basic skills in
sentences.
The students will become proficient in subject/verb agreement.
The students will be able to define and recognize the eight parts of speech
in sentences.
The students will be introduced to the writing process.
The students will be assessed on their writing by way of the Wyoming Area
rubric.
The students will continue practicing various reading strategies for better
decoding and comprehension.
The students will be able to describe the setting, characters, plot, and
main
idea of a story.
The students will be able to respond to oral, visual, written and electronic
texts, and compare their responses to those of their peers.
The students will be able to apply meaning while reading.
