About The Teacher
Miss Leonarda Sperrazza is a graduate of Wilkes University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Master's degree in Education. Miss Sperrazza teaches General Music classes to grades K through Six at Tenth Street, Kindergarten music classes at JFK Elementary and Chorus Class at the High School, which consists of 70 students in grades 7 through 12. During the school year 2007-2008, Miss Sperrazza initiated an extra- curricular chorus comprised of sixth grade students. The students met after school on Tuesdays for a 45 minute rehearsal each week. The culminating activity was a performance with the high school chorus at a concert in May of 2008. Several outstanding sixth grade students also performed at Wyoming Area's graduation on June 8, 2008. This Tenth Street Chorus continues to thrive and currently is composed of forty seven fifth and sixth grade students from Tenth Street Elementary. The chorus continues to meet weekly, on Tuesdays, for a forty-five minute rehearsal. The students are singing in two part harmony with the expectation that they will join the WA high school choral ensemble when they are in seventh grade. In September of 2009 Miss Sperrazza assumed the position of Drama Director at Tenth Street. Currently, the students are working on a holiday musical entitled The North Pole Goes Rock and Roll. The musical is scheduled for a performance on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 7pm at Tenth Street. Miss Sperrazza is also active as a church organist and as a private piano teacher. She is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, the PA Music Teachers' Association, and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Her piano students perform in area competitions sponsored by the Junior Mozart Club and the PA Music Teachers Association. The students have consistently placed in the top category of scoring and have performed at state conventions in various locations, such as Penn State(main campus), West Chester University, Marywood University, and Susquehanna University. As director of the WA High School Chorus, Miss Sperrazza and her students have performed at various community functions, such as the Wyoming tree lighting ceremony, the Retired Teachers Association Christmas Dinner, the Pride Mobility Christmas Party at Gus Gennetti's and most recently, at the Fox Hill Country Club's Presendential Ball.
