We are soo excited that 'The Elf' has arrived to our classroom. We
named him Snowflake and he will be watching for good girls and boys. Remind
your child to follow all of the school rules so they receive a good report!
Our fun family project 'Disguising Santa Clause' is due on Monday, December 7.
Horray we have reached our goal of reading 100 book by December for the
Scholastic Books Club!!!!!
The children started another reading program for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Penguins called 'ROBO'S READERS PROGRAM'. For every 10 books children read
they can get a voucher for a free ticket to a penguins game. A parent must
then purchase a ticket to the same game. Parents must write down the 10
books the children read and sign the paper, and send it back to school. The
program runs until January 30th. LETS GO PENGUINS!!!!!
**Please have your child go on the The Odyssey computer program at
home to help reinforce skills we work on in class.
READING - We have begun Theme 5 - "Home Sweet Home". The skills we will
cover include: compare and contrast, making generalizations and cause and
effect. Phonics skills will cover beginning and ending letters sh, th, wh,
ch, tch, long a and i, final letters ng, nk, nd, and contractions. These
skills will take us into the new year.
Please remember to review all vocabulary words and workbook pages sent
home each night. Spelling and Reading Skills Tests will be given at the end
of each week. Please make sure your child is well rested for the days of the
tests.

DECEMBER READING LOG!!!!
The December reading log is due December 22.
MATH - We have begun Topic 8 - GEOMETRY. In Topic 8 students will be working
on Identifying Plane Shapes; Propeties of Shapes; Making New Shapes from
Shapes; Breaking Apart Shapes to Make Shapes; Ways to Move Shapes;
Congruence; Symmetry; and Problem Solving: Making an Organized List.
Timed math tests will be given on Fridays.
Math Quizzes are given daily. Tests will be announced.
*Please review all math papers sent home each night. Also review addition
and subtraction facts to 12 to help prepare your child for fact quizzes
beginning in November.
Students are given a "Take Home" folder to carry daily work
home at the beginning of the year. Papers on the "home" side of the folder
are for students to keep. Papers on the "back" side of the folder should be
returned the next day. Homework papers are also marked with an H.W. at the
top right hand corner.
Our class orders from Scholastic Book Club at the beginning of each
month throughout the year. Your child is under no obligation to order
books. Please pay by check, and make the check out to scholastic books.
Our class also has a home page on the scholastic web site. The site has
great links for students to practice skills in the form of games. Click on
links above.
If your child is absent an excuse is expected to be brought to school
when your child returns.
The desk fairy will be visiting our classroom throughout the year
looking for children with organized desks.
Children are encouraged to bring in a book to read to the class that
they have practiced reading at home. Reading rewards will be given to
our "Book Worm" readers!
$$$$$$$$$Please practice using money at home. IDEAS: Set up a store at home
and have your child buy things that cost a $1.00 or less. Let your child
exchange money with you. Use pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half
dollars, and a dollar bill.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
