The week of May 21, 2012

     Grade 2 continued to work on Brooke and Her Crayon.

     Grade 3 finished the Dragon of Krakow and started working on
     My Green Thumb.

     Grade 4 will finish the leveled reader, Murals for Joy.  They 
     will begin reading Ruthie's Perfect Poem.

     Grade 5 finished America A Dream.  They will begin reading Zachary's
     Ride.

     Post tests were also given in all of the grades.


The week of May 14, 2012

     Grade 2 will be working on the leveled reader, Brooke and Her Crayon.

     Grade 3 will be working on summarizing The Dragon of Krakow.

     Grade 4 will be working in the leveled reader, Murals for Joy.  

     Grade 5 will be working in the leveled reader, America A Dream.


The week of May 7, 2012

     Classes resumed and there were also Dibel's makeups.


The week of May 1, 2012

     Dibel's Testing was done in Kindergarten in all the elementary
buildings in the district.

The week of April 23, 2012

     Dibel's Testing was done in Grades 1 and 2 in all the elementary 
buildings in the district.

The week of April 16, 2012

     Fluency drills were done all week in all the classes.


The week of April 10, 2012

     On April 11, 2012, there will be a Title 1 Parent Involvement Mini-
Workshop.  We will be working on strategies that deal with fluency and 
comprehension so parents can work with their child over the summer months.
We welcome all title 1 students in grades two and three in the J.F.K. and
tenth Street Elementary Buildings to join us.  The meeting will be at J.F.K.
at 9:00A.M.  Refreshments will also be served.

      Grade 2 will be working in the leveled reader, the Birthday Surprise.
There will also be an emphasis on fluency activities.

      Grade 3 will be finishing fluency activities on Festival in Valencia.

      Grade 4 will be working in the leveled reader, The Best Fish Ever.  
Students will finalize the summaries of the story.  They will also finalize
fluency activites with this story.

       Grade 5 will act out the play, The Birthday Dig.  Students will 
analyze the clues in the archaeological dig.  They will use expression and 
speed and accuracy when they read the play. 
        
     

The week of April 2, 2012

     All grades continued working in their leveled readers.  The stories were 
a continuation from the previous week.  There was an extensive amount of skill
development done with the stories.  Finding the details in the story and 
summarizing it were the areas that we concentrated on from the designated 
stories.


The week of March 26, 2012

     Grade 2 will be working in the leveled reader, Grandparents Are Great.
     
     Grade 3 will be working in the leveled reader, Festival in Valencia.

     Grade 4 will be working in the leveled reader, The Best Fish Ever.

     Grade 5 will be working in the leveled reader, Upstate Autumn.


The week of March 19, 2012

     PSSA's ended on March 21, 2012.

     Title 1 classes resumed for all grades.


The week of March 12, 2012

     PSSA's were given to Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.
     
     Title 1 classes were held for the second grade students at J.F.K. 
Elementary. 



The week of March 5, 2012

     The second grade students at J.F.K. Elementary will be working on a 
story, Earthworms.  We will do phonetic drills with the new vocabulary words,
and the students will be doing a writing project wtih this story.

     The third grade students at both J.F.K. Elementary and Tenth Street 
Elementary will be working on passages in preparation for the PSSA.  They 
will be working on Caring for a Pet Rat. I will continue to work 
cooperatively with these teachers in their classrooms.

     The fourth grade students will continue to work on the story, The Big 
Gust.

     The fifth grade students will be working on additional passages in 
preparation for the PSSA's.  I will continue to work cooperatively with these
teachers in their classrooms.

     

The week of February 27, 2012

     At the JFK Elementary Building, I orchestrated the Dr. Seuss dress up
throughout the week.  Forms were sent home to the parents so they knew what 
was happening throughout the week.

     The third grade students at both schools will complete an open-ended 
response on Scarlett's Race.  This will be done with all third grade students 
at both schools in preparation for the PSSA's.  I will continue to work 
cooperatively with the third grade teachers.

     The fourth grade students will be working on The Big Gust, which is a 
story in our leveled readers.

     I will continue to work cooperatively with the fifth grade teachers on 
another state sampler.  We will work on all levels of questioning with 
Scungy's Twins.  



Dibels Testing for Grades K-3 will be done during January 2012.


Annual Title 1 Parent Involvement Meeting at the J.F.K. Elementary School
at 6:30P.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2012.

The week of February 21, 2012 

     During the week of February 21, 2012, the third grade students at J.F.K.
and Tenth Street Elementary will complete their projects on The Mask Makers.
Every student read the book, The Mask Makers by Veronica Freeman Ellis.  We 
studied the African masks and how the art of mask making was a custom passed
on from father to son.
     Student then designed their own masks and had their family traditions on 
the masks.
     Pictures of the masks will be on the website shortly.

     The third grade students at both schools will be completing an open 
ended prompt for the story on Ruby Bridges.  This has been done with all the 
third grade students in preparation for the PSSA's.

     The fourth grade students at the Tenth Street Elementary school will be
working on stories that develop sequence type quesitons, summary, and 
evaluation type questions.

     The fifth grade students at the Tenth Street school will be working on a 
state open-ended response question in preparation for the PSSA's.  They will 
be working on Pass the Chocolate.  I will push in and work with the classroom 
teacher on this prompt.

     During the week of February 21, 2012, the second grade students at the 
J.F.K. Elementary School will be working on individualized phonic drills.  
They will also be finishing a story about Earthworms.  As a follow up to the 
Earthworm story, students will be doing skill development on same/different,
analysis, and summary type questions.
