NewsFlash

November has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   The children had a wonderful Halloween party.  Thank you to all the parents who sent in "HEALTHY" snacks.  The children enjoyed eating all of them.

We have read 64 books for Scholastic Books Club so far.  We need to reach our goal of 100 books by December.

On October 19th the children started another reading program for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins called Robo's  Readers program.  When the children read 10 books they can get a voucher and trade it in for a free ticket to a penguins game.  A parent must then purchase a ticket to the same game .  Parents must write down the 10 books the children read on the blue paper that was sent home, sign the paper, and send it back to school.  The program runs until January 30th.  See you at the games.   GO PENS!!!!!!!!

Here are some of the activities we will be covering in the month of November:

READING - Theme #3  LET'S LOOK AROUND   We started theme #3 the last week in October.  Some of the skills that will be taught are: topic, main idea, details, and summarizing a story.  The phonics that will be covered are double final consonants and the short o vowel sound.  Spelling and English will be added to our curriculm.  There will be homework in Spelling and weekly Spelling and English tests.  The children will have ten words to spell and one dictation sentence they will have to write down.  Please practice writing sentences on paper and using capital letters to start a sentence and end with a period, question mark, or exclamation point.  Please note skills covered on curriculum sheet that was sent home on the Back to School Night in September.

Theme #4 - Family and Friends is going to start the last week in November.  Some of the skills taught are:   drawing conclusions, compare and contrast, and sequence of events.  Some of the phonics that will be taught are L blends, and S blends, triple clusters, contractions with  's , silent letters kn, wr, and gn will be taught.  The vowel short  u will be reviewed.

Please remember to review all vocabulary words and workbook pages sent home each night.  Skills tests will be given after each week and a Theme test will end the Theme.   Please watch for them in your child's homework folder.

MATH - We are moving right along in Math class.  In November the children will complete Topic #6 - Addition Facts to 12.  There are six lessons in  this topic.  Topic #7 - Subtraction Facts to12.  There are five lessons in this topic.  This takes us to the end of November and into December with Topic #8 - Geometry.  Please make sure the children are studying the fact families that went home in September.  I will be giving another timed test on these math fact families.

The Odyssey at home program is a big hit.  The children can't wait to hear me say that they went on the computer at home.  They have enjoyed all the treats and gifts I have given them as their reward.  Keep up the awesome work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please try to attend PTO meetings.  Our class wants to have the most parents in attendence to win a prize.  They are held in the first week of each month.

Just a reminder to all parents.............Please remember to sign all tests that go home with your child when they have a test.  It is very important to review your child's mistakes with them.

I look forward to working with you this year!    Please read with your child every night.
